A fortress in the sea that was inhabited by Venetians, Ottomans and sick people. - It was a day trip by bus and boat. Our tour guide Ireni and the driver Michaelis are both very experienced. We visited a small men's monastery dedicated to St. George. We drove up and down a mountain range on a winding road to the sea. We took a boat trip to the island of Spinalonga, which was blasted off from a long peninsula and built as a fortress. The view over the sea to small islands and the long peninsula is beautiful. On Spinalonga we walked through an abandoned village that is being restored. And we learned a lot about the lepers who were the last to live on the island. We had lunch in Plaka, on the balcony of a good restaurant. And on the way home we stopped in Agios Nikolaos. There were no cruise ships there at the time, so we were able to stroll through the town in peace. Ireni told us a lot about the island and its people and organized everything very well. And our driver handled every situation confidently and calmly. Sometimes the streets are just narrow. When we are back in Crete, we will be happy to choose a new trip with cretan holidays. Many thanks to our hosts and to the group, who worked well together

Great day out. - Transported from stalis to agios nickalious by air-conditioned coach. Tour guide on board excellent. 6 or 7 pick ups before onward journey but not too bad. Free time before boarding boat. Lunch was OK, nothing special but good enough. Cruise good. Plenty of information from guides. Swim stop on the way . Spinalonga amazing. Downside was I was not told that €8 euro entrance fee was not included in the price from the agent . Great place of interest and a great talk from Gloria the guide. Most passionate about the place. Good value for money trip.
