Let your imagination guide you - What a fantastic opportunity. Thank you to the entire WVV team for an awesome experience. The walk was beautiful, native trees and birds abound. Historical sites and a good amount of information available. The colours produced in some areas were unreal. The boat trip around Lake Rotomahana was fabulous and learning all about the eruption was quite remarkable, we were lucky enough to wait for the big geyser to go off twice (it goes every 7 minutes) and to see the lesser seen Angels Wings geyser go off.

Booking and Arrival: The booking process was straightforward and efficient, with plenty of information available on their website about the various trails and tours. Upon arrival, the friendly staff provided us with a detailed map and helpful tips to make the most of our visit. The Trails: Waimangu offers a range of walking trails suitable for different fitness levels, each providing stunning views and access to various geothermal features. I opted for the full walking tour, which took approximately 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace. The paths were well-maintained and clearly marked, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Geothermal Features: The geothermal features at Waimangu are nothing short of spectacular. From the vividly colored pools to the steaming vents and bubbling mud pots, every turn offered something new and fascinating. Highlights included the brilliant blue Inferno Crater Lake, the otherworldly Frying Pan Lake, and the impressive silica terraces. Boat Cruise: I highly recommend adding the boat cruise on Lake Rotomahana to your visit. This serene lake tour provides a different perspective of the geothermal features, some of which are only accessible by boat. The knowledgeable guide shared fascinating insights into the history and geology of the region, making the cruise both informative and relaxing. Educational Value: Throughout the park, informative signboards and displays provide interesting facts about the geothermal features and the history of the area, including the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886, which created the Waimangu Volcanic Valley. This educational aspect enhances the overall experience, making it not only visually stunning but intellectually enriching as well. Facilities: The facilities at Waimangu Thermal Wonderland were excellent. The visitor center has a well-stocked gift shop and a cozy café offering a range of refreshments. The restrooms were clean and conveniently located. Value for Money: Considering the unique experience and the well-maintained facilities, the entry fee to Waimangu Thermal Wonderland is very reasonable. The opportunity to witness such a wide array of geothermal phenomena in one place is truly worth every cent. Final Thoughts: Waimangu Thermal Wonderland is a breathtaking destination that offers a rare glimpse into the Earth's geothermal processes. Best geothermal park in the area - There are lots of geothermal parks around and of the two we researched and put at the top, this one was the better one. It is a one way hike with buses to return you, and there are 3 different lengths of walks to choose from. Best of all, since all are in a line, you can decide what length you want as you go and reach each of the 3 bus stops. The map is super clear and instructive to go with the well marked paths and points of interest.

Self Guided Walk and Boat Tour - Very scenic self guided walked through the Geothermal Valley. The info sheet and info board along the way are very helpful explaining the history of the area. At the end of the 90 minute walk, we went on the boat trip along the lake and our skipper gave us lots of history about the lake’s formation and the surrounding valley. The only downside was that the cafe ha: limited options after we got back from the walk/cruise at 1430!

Even better than I remember. - Magic! It's beautiful, spectacular and interesting. The only drawback is the cost: $36 for a self-guided walk. It is well worth half a day of your time. How long it takes will depend on how many stops you make to look, listen and take photos. Don't be put off by the steps up to the Frying Pan Lake lookout. From there you can see the patterns in the mist drifting across the lake, how they rise at the edge of upwellings and spread. The Mt Haszard hiking trail is another story - this one is for completists. The turquoise waters of Inferno Crater are worth the climb, but beyond that is yet more climbing, not much spectacle, and a long steep descent. The numbered points of interest have explanatory sign boards, information which is also in the Wanderer Guide, which comes with admission. The shuttle bus (included in the admission fee) is a welcome saviour for the journey back up the hill.

Amazing geothermal hike - I loved hearing the birds, seeing the earth bubbling, rumbling through the ferns and greenery. There were not many people on the route which made it fabulously intimate.

A beautifully wonderful adventure. - Well organized, easy to follow, easy to do adventure to truly beautiful natural features, worth returning for.

A lovely walk in a thermal environment - An impressive thermal site away from the crowds when I visited. A relatively easy walk past steam vents, and lakes, in an almost othercwordly experience. There are 3 places along the walk that you can get a bus back to the top. I walked to the bottom lake over about 2 hours and there were plenty of stops for photographs.

Beautiful small blue lake. - A little disappointing after visiting Orakei Korako which was brilliant. Smaller set up but visually better. The blue lake is lovely but the walk down to the main lake was just that a walk down to the lake. We didn't go on the boat trip around the lake but were grateful for the bus back up. There are 3 stops for the bus stop.

Scam, expensive and not much to see. Wai o pu is 10 times better and less. A tourist trap like no other - Don't go there. On the road to rotura the crater lake near kerosene creek is free and also good. With added swimming
