Black River Safari Tour 6/2019 - Booked this excursion through Island Routes desk a Hyatt Zilara. Be aware that it is a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Montego Bay resorts. The shaded boat is a plus when temps are in the 80s / 90s F. We saw other guided tours that had no roof on the boat and the people looked hot. The guide was knowledgeable and very entertaining. The tour lasted about an hour. Highly recommend if you want to get close to the island wildlife.

Just WOW!! You gotta DO THIS!!! - We took the Black River Safari tour on Sunday May 26th! It was FANTASTIC- and this is the time to do it if you want to see the young egrets in their best!!! Our guide was Very knowledgeable - no question went unanswered. He also has a unique method of knowing the alligators 🐊 by NAME - PLUS - he could call them over to the boat! Their boat was safe and very comfortable- with a great awning to protect you from both the sun (or rain). This is a very unique side of Jamaica that I had never experienced - despite being a guest here for over 25 years!! The Bennett family really knows how to show you THEIR Jamaica!! Strongly urge one and all to take this awesome tour as part of your Jamaican experience!!

Quite a long way from Montego Bay... -
Quite a long way from Montego Bay but it is nice to get out of the tourist places and experience more of the rural Jamaica. It was a nice boat ride and there was plenty to see

Black River & YS Falls Tour - The tour to both locations make this trip worth the time it takes you to travel there from Montego Bay. You will be at least 3 hours each way, so a 6 hour round trip if nothing interrupts your drive. Black River was a boat ride down the river in search of some crocodiles and different species of birds. All of which we did see and learned some interesting facts about Manatees which use to populate this river. A couple of things you should know is that there is lunch available for sale when you get to the sight, which we had not been advised of at time of booking. The cost was $12 a plate and there was a bar you could purchase drinks if you chose too. The trip down the river was interesting as the boat driver talked about the crocks, King Birds and manatees , but was very poor at pointing out any other birds or other wild life. Also upon return he provided no commentary at all which was very disappointing and then he asked for a tip. YS Falls is a self directed type of tour. You get a ride up to the falls then walk up multiple stairs to the different levels of the falls, which are breath taking. One of the levels has a rope where you can swing out over the pool area of the falls and many folks had great fun doing this! At the bottom of the falls and entrance to them is a pool where you can enjoy swim and there is a zipline ride over the area too. We viewed multiples of hummingbirds in this area, apparently there are 300+ types of them in Jamaica . The YS Falls area was certainly a good place to view a few of them the day we were there! Worth the trip if you can stand the drive to and from.
