The Accademia Gallery in Florence was formerly a part of the esteemed Academy of Fine Arts. It was established in 1784 by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, who amassed a vast collection of original and replicated art pieces.
The Accademia was selected to house Michelangelo’s David as it is situated in the very square where Michelangelo first learned to sculpt as a child. In 1873, the city of Florence transported David to a new location within the Accademia Gallery because his original location, the Signoria Square, was no longer secure.

Highly recommend this tour - Antonia was a wonderful guide! He is knowledgeable and takes pride in sharing the treasures at Accademia. While crowded it was relatively easy to find the office where we met Antonio.

Informative express tour - Francesco was very informative and made the tour interesting. A natural born story teller. We were lucky to end up being just 4 of us on the tour so we used that one hour learning all about David and the other works around it.

Small Group Tour Recommended! - The only way to visit is with a small group like we did. Antonio was incredibly informative and patient as we moved through the crowds to view David and a few other highlights of Accademia. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a stress-free visit to this Gallery.

Small group and guide worth it. - I think you just have to see the real David if you go to Firenze, and the guide was kn formative and also explained a lot of other sculpture in the gallery. She was a Michelangelo specialist and our group small, so I learned a bit and could navigate the crowd to get the best out of the visit.

So much history - Sylvia was a very well educated and informed guide. To truly appreciate the works of this gallery a guided tour is a must. Be prepared for large crouds, skip the line is invaluable, especially if you are time poor.

Short, sweet, small group tour. - A nice quick tour of the galleria accademia. We booked online the same day as the tour in order to spend less time in lines and to learn from a guide. We had a small group of 4 of us which was good. Our guide was very knowledgeable and this meant none of us really has many questions. The tour really only concentrates on a handful of the pieces in the museum and mainly Michelangelo's sculptures especially David. But at the end of the tour we could stay and wander around the rest of the art.
