Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you’ll generally find one of them out flying most days.
On our Mt Cook Supreme flight you’ll fly over the Franz Josef, Fox, Tasman Glaciers and fly into the Southern Alps to see Mount Cook and enjoy two included 10 minute landings - the first a snow landing for photos and the second on the Shackleton Glacier. Total experience time approx. 60 minutes.
Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.
- Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.
- Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

Our only base operates from Franz Josef. Cancellations within 24hours due to customer booking the wrong location will not be refunded.

BUCKET LIAst - Our trip was canceled on the first day because of the weather, but the staff did everything they could and got us in on the next day and we have an amazing flight very professional. I would highly recommend them..

Mount Cook Glacier Country Helicopter flight with ice landing. - Glacier Country Helicopters emailed the day before to see if we could move our flight earlier in the day due to predicted bad weather. We were so thankful for the opportunity to go earlier. We had clear skies and a smooth trip. Dion was our pilot. He was informative and highly professional. We felt safe, and he made sure to complete trips past significant landmarks on both sides of the helicopter so all passengers had a good view. We had a fabulous time walking on the glacier and experiencing the vast open space. I would recommend flying with Glacier Country Helicopters. They are a family owned and operated venture, and the service was caring and personal, as you would expect from a small business owner.

Incredible experience, unreal - It was out of this world. The scenery can only be experienced first hand. Totally recommend this family run business if you're thinking of taking a trip to the glacier in Franz Josef.

Mountains in a helicopter! - The guides were great. They run a great tour with beautiful views of multiple glaciers and mountain peaks. The two snow landings were the icing on the cake. Strongly recommend.

Unbelievable experience! - We had an absolutely amazing experience today celebrating our Wedding Anniversary on a Heli flight over Tasman & Franz Josef Glaciers and a stunning 15 min snow landing. We also viewed Mt Cook & Mt Tasman.
Thanks to the wonderful Aaron & Nicole and Dion.
We were even surprised with a glass of bubbly.

Wow factor - We had an amazing experience! It was wonderful to see the 4 glaciers from the air after seeing them on foot during our holiday around the South Island. The ground crew and Pilot were all really helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend this tour .

Fantastic - just do it! - We did a one hour Mt Cook supreme tour from Franz Josef which was amazing. From the friendly reception staff, to our driver Aaron and our excellent chopper Dion, we felt welcomed and looked after for the entire experience. Our helicopter had six guests on board but Dion made sure everyone got to see the glaciers and scenery. We flew over four different glaciers, saw Mt Cook and Mt Tasman and had two snow landings. Lots of fun and laughter with our fellow passengers. A great tour and we highly recommend this company if you want to do a helicopter trip from Franz Josef.
