In Sri Lanka, lies an underappreciated tourist destination known as the Wayamba province, which encompasses a rich history dating back to the 12th and 14th centuries. Wayamba offers a unique blend of historical and natural splendor, grounded in its coconut paddy cultivation. The main city in the province is Kurunegala, the ancient royal capital, characterized by its coconut-saturated surroundings. The cityscape is dominated by eight large rock formations, a sight to behold during the tour, including Ethagala, or the ‘Elephant Rock’ that gave Kurunegala its name. In close proximity, one can find three archeological cities that house the remnants of a moated palace and monasteries from the 12th century, not to forget the fascinating Silver Village.
