Additional Information

This non-technical Kilimanjaro camping route is one of the most popular and commonly referred to as the ‘whisky’ route due to its popularity and strong nature of the route. Machame starts at the southwest mountain rain forest and involves steep and challenging hikes on the southern circuit which is well designed for acclimatization with natural features taking you high and low. Although this is a non-technical route, there is a small ‘scrambling’ (using your hands and legs) section at the Barranco wall which truly gives you that mountain climbing feeling without any special equipment or experience.

  • Not recommended for travelers with lung problems or other known altitude related medical conditions

unforgettable Experience - A friend of mine an me went the Machame 7 days tour toward Uhuru Peak in February 2024. The whole journey was perfectly organized and communicated. All crew members of the tour acted very professional and friendly. Really nothing to complain. Special Greetings to Dennis and the cook - we will never forget the pizza on 4.600 meters. I personally highly recommend Shah tours for your next trip!

Outstanding company! Outstanding climb! - Outstanding company! I couldn’t have had a better time getting up Mount Kilimanjaro! Shah Tours has been taking people to the top for over 50 years, and it shows! Everything was superbly organized and effortless to work with. I loved my tent; very comfy, and I was never cold. (You can rent any and all equipment you need with them and it’s all super quality.) Our head guides were Calvin and Godfrey, and they were fantastic; always helpful and cheerful, which kept the moral high. The whole crew was very nice, accommodating, and helpful. We even loved the owners who we got to meet and spend a little time with. So grateful. Highly recommended! You will not regret going with Shah Tours! Thank you all!

Climbing Kilimanjaro via Machame route - In January 2024 we climbed Kilimanjaro with 2 people. During the climb we were assisted by a fantastic team led by the 2 guides, Matej and Denis. Thanks to their good guidance, we can also proudly say that we have reached the top.

Great Service Through and Through - We had an amazing time on our hike with Shah Tours. The team was nothing short of excellent- they went above and beyond to ensure that we were comfortable and well taken care of. By the time we arrived at the campsite every day, everything would be perfectly set up for us, including our air mattress. The guides understood our pace and led us accordingly and the food was also of very good quality. The tent and other equipment we hired from them were also of great quality. I'd highly recommend Shah Tours to anyone who is planning a trip to Kilimanjaro.

Amazing Kilimanjaro Climbing Experience! - My husband and I booked our Kilimanjaro climb through Shah Tours, and could not have been more pleased with our experience. To start, I think we had the best guides on the entire mountain. Baraka and Vincent were extremely knowledgeable, not only about mountain safety, but also about the history of Kilimanjaro, the flora, the fauna, the tribes in Tanzania, languages, and everything else we had questions about. We learned so much on our hike up to the summit, which made the whole experience even better than anticipated. On summit day (Oct. 27th, 2023), my husband and I both experienced altitude sickness at around 18,000ft of elevation, and our wonderful guides went above and beyond. Not only did they monitor us closely to ensure we were safe to continue, but they even took our bags and held my hand to bring me to accomplish my goal of standing on the top of Kilimanjaro. I could not be happier with their patience and encouragement with us during our hike. I can't forget to mention the chef and porters who came along with us and set up our wonderful tent and dining tent each day. The entire group was a big family - big smiles and songs the entire way. The chef made wonderful food with (to our surprise) incredible fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, as we got higher in altitude, our appetite started to dwindle as well, but the chef was very flexible, and offered us plain pasta the night before our summit, so that we could get some food in us to have the necessary energy needed to get to the top. He even accommodated our vegetarian diet, which we came to find was not common in Tanzania. Thank you Shah Tours for putting together our awesome team! We really felt like we were taken care of and are so happy to have made it to the top! I couldn't recommend this company more!
