- Mount Maunganui - This tour starts with a scenic drive along the Mount Maunganui beach before heading over the Tauranga Harbour bridge, past the city center and inland over the Kaimai ranges. We climb to around 1800 feet providing spectacular panoramic views across the rich fertile farmland of the Waikato province. From there we make our way towards Hobbiton passing typical New Zealand farms.
- Hobbiton Movie Set - On arrival at the Shires Rest Cafe you are collected in the Hobbiton bus and taken to Middle Earth via the 1250-acre sheep farm. Your expert guide will take you on a 2-hour journey through “The Shire”. You will be told the story of how the remote set was discovered and how Hobbiton is a living film set maintained by a team of gardeners and maintenance staff. It is the only purpose-built film set in the world where the public can go and experience it as it is in the movie.
- McLaren Falls Park - After a break for lunch (time permitting) and shopping at the Shires Rest Cafe, we head back over the Kaimai range stopping at the lookout for a photo opportunity looking across the beautiful Waikato farmland and then on to our final stop at McLaren Falls. McLaren Falls is a 190 hectare park of pastoral and horticultural land set alongside Lake McLaren with a ten minute walk through native New Zealand bush-land to view a picturesque waterfall. Finally we return to the city cross the harbour bridge and return you to the beginning of the tour.

Amazing tour!! - Excellent tour, our guide Nicolee was awesome, she was super friendly and knowledgeable. There were a few different tours offered going to Hobbiton but this one included the tickets to get in. This is a must do tour for any LOTR fans! Afterwards we stopped McLaren Falls and then to McLaren Lake to check out the scenery, really pretty!! Great day, thanks for the amazing tour!

See New Zealand and Hobbiton! - The Hobbiton movie set is absolutely amazing - much more extensive than we imagined, and you even get to go inside a Hobbit Hole! And we had a lovely tour of New Zealand on the way to the set. Russell was very knowledgeable, and shared his country with us. We saw some immense vistas, stopped by a kiwi orchard, and enjoyed waterfalls in McLaren Falls Park. We loved being able to see the New Zealand landscape in addition to the movie set. An excellent tour!

Great experience for LOTR fans - An amazing tour from the time Nicolee picked us up at the cruise terminal to the drop off. Small group of 10 getting to Hobbiton then she handed us over to the Hobbiton tour guide who took us through the village. It was exactly as we remembered it from the movies with some interesting tidbits about how the production worked. On the way back to the cruise ship Nicolee stopped to show us a scenic waterfall, the Main Street in Tarangua and the beautiful beach. A wonderful day!

Great experience! - We had a wonderful experience both at Hobbiton and with our driver/guide Russell who picked us up in Tauranga. He showed us some wonderful sights and told us lots about the history of New Zealand and Tauranga. He made sure we were safely on the hobbiton tour bus and stood there ready to pick us up after! We had the day! 😁

Best tour - We were able to find tour right away from cruise ship. Tour operator was very helpful and friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The tour of Hobbiton was the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed it from beginning to end. The only criticism I had was the website that wouldn’t let me change credit cards without canceling tour and rebooking with new card. That caused much anxiety but turned out ok.

An amazing experience, not to miss!! - Our tour guide Nichole was amazing, friendly, informative and fun. She made great use of our time by showing us some of the sights of Tauranga before we got to Hobbiton. The Wicked Wanders tour at Hobbiton was well worth the money and it was an incredible experience to have our own tour guide show us through the movie set.

Highlight of our cruise - We had a great time with the tour. Pickup and drop off from the cruise port was easy. Our guide/driver was personable and knowledgeable (thanks again for letting me borrow your hat). Hobbiton was of course wonderful. All in all, a fantastic excursion. Highly recommended.
