Do not pay - stunning experience - DO NOT PAY for this experience. Get a cab to destination, ask for Rio Chillar, they will take you to the start of the trail where you will walk for about 30 mins before reaching the beginning of the beautiful water flow. It is stunning. If it is boiling hot you will be cooked down by walking this path. There is one route. You will come across the first waterfall another half hour in which u can drink fresh water from or fill up your bottle. Then keep going and you will find an open pool section that is highlighted by the heavens. It is gorgeous and you can sit in the pool and relax before heading back. We took a few sandwiches which I highly Recommend as u get hungryyyy. We didn’t go the hole way but as we passed i asked a Spanish lady what she recommended and she said it isn’t really worth going the hole way. We had an amazing time and it wasn’t too far from where we were staying. It was hard to get a cab back so ended up walking a half hour to billingar beach and getting snacks and cocktails.

Great day out and a nice cool experience. - We had a great day out, was 32C with a short half hour walk to where the river starts. Then you are in shade through canyons and of course the water cools you down. Two pools you can sit down in and really cool off. It is a good four hour round trip, you need comfy trainers as the rocks can be sharp so beach/water shoes aren’t going to be comfy. Something with a lot of padding on the sole. Emilio was our guide and really nice guy spoke excellent English as he had lived in Manchester. On the way back he went to get the van to save us the uphill walk back into Nerja. Top bloke.

Rio Chillar river walk - an absolute requirement for your Nerja visit - I can't believe this activity doesn't have more and higher ratings! If you're going to Nerja, you absolutely must do this walk. My wife and I (both in our 60s) walked up the Rio Chillar river and it was one of the most incredible experiences we've had anywhere. The water was at most about 1 foot deep (.3 meter) so it was pretty easy walking. At some points the water was rushing a little bit, but we never felt any danger at all. You'll start with easy walking on a trail next to the river and then gradually transition into walking right up the middle of the creek (it's more of a "creek" than a river). Eventually, with the 4-hour round-trip walk, you'll go through canyons that are about 5 feet across and 100 feet long. At other times the canyon is 30 feet across and you can walk next to the river. Pretty much every point is incredible for being in nature and seeing some beautiful scenery. Our guide, Manuel, speaks English well and was able to tell us not only about the canyon, its history, the wildlife and flora, but also about his childhood memories of doing this same walk with his friend. He was very hospitable and helpful, even taking my wife's hand through some of the higher steps (she's fairly short). He absolutely made the trip the best it could be. So, if you're in Nerja, don't miss the caves (highly advertised) but also don't miss the walk up the Rio Chillar!
