Presided over by Mount Epomeo, Ischia is an exquisite island situated close to Capri. Frequently referred to as the green isle, it is significantly larger than Capri. These gardens were the creation of the English composer Sir William Walton and his wife, who took up residence here beginning in 1949. Over 300 unique and exotic plant species adorn the gardens, complemented by intricate statues and cascading waterfalls. La Mortella is partitioned into two areas: a lower segment known as The Valley, and The Hill which is an elevated garden buttressed by terraces and retaining walls. Various zones within the garden are interconnected by an arrangement of walks, trails, ramps, and steps traversing dry walls that lead visitors to the summit of the hill. From here, one can feast their eyes on the spectacular panorama of the Bay of Forio.
