Additional Information

The Upper Mustang Trek takes you into the forbidden Kingdom or hidden valley, which was once a part of the Tibetan Empire and thus has deep ties with it.

The Mustang trek offers a glimpse into the concealed valleys of Upper Mustang, lying between Tibet and the Himalayas – a location distinct from anywhere else in the world. Until the 1830s, the fortified city of Lo-Manthang was a component of the Tibetan Kingdom of Gungthang. Rather than documented history, the early stages of Lo-Manthang are steeped in myths and folklore. Although Upper Mustang is evolving, it continues to astonish visitors with its breathtaking scenery and rigid adherence to its singular culture. The restoration of deteriorating artworks has only added to this region’s allure.

Reconstructed crumbling monasteries are now resonating with the voices of young, shaven-headed children dressed in robes, immersing themselves in ancient Buddhist traditions and teachings. Lo-Mangthang comprises around 275 houses, inhabited by four different castes.

Poon Hill Christmas - We did Ghorepani / Poon Hill over 6 days Excellent time of year to go Quiet, clear dry days - cool at night Easy to travel, eat, organise Christmas in the mountains - I don’t know why more families don’t do it at this time of year We had a family of 5 - we had a blast ! Excellent management by Ram Excellent guide - Karyan (Guide) and Porters (Kedar, Lila, and Goman) You could do it without a guide or porters - by why would you - this supports the local economy and life was made easier A wonderful family holiday

Annapurna Circuit - My wife and I decided to we wanted to hike the Annapurna Circuit on a short timeline, and were disappointed to learn that Nepal recently passed legislation that would require us to hire a guide. We were hoping for a more romantic get-away and feared that having a guide as a third wheel may be awkward at best and intrusive at worst, but after a 6 day adventure, we couldn't be happier with our experience. Sherpa Expeditions met us at our hotel upon arrival in Nepal and had all our paperwork in order. They also helped us find good but affordable insurance in case we required a helicopter evacuation. They explained our itinerary and then made sure any flights, taxis, and jeep rides were arranged to get us where we needed to be on time. Our guide, Pravin Jimba (definitely request him if you can) not only helped us navigate the terrain and get the best rooms at the best teahouses, but more importantly he helped us experience the Himalayas with a more Nepalese perspective. He knew when to give us space, but also when to step in and encourage us to push ourselves at the higher altitudes, even during a rest day, so that we were as prepared as possible to cross Thorang La Pass at 17,500' with minimal acclimation. I can't stress enough that the experience would have been way more uncomfortable without his expert guidance. It was the trip of a lifetime we hoped it would be.

Trustworthy, adaptable company that work with you to deliver the trek you want. - From my very first contact with Ram I felt confident that we were in safe reliable hands. Due to covid we had to rearrange our original dates and Ram was very accommodating. On arrival in Kathmandhu we were met at the airport as promised and taken to our hotel, then to the offices where we went through the details of our trek and met our guide Raju. We had also opted for a day tour of Kathmandhu which was excellent, the owner took us on the tour and we felt me maximised our day. Our trek to Upper Mustang was better than expected, the tea houses were all wonderful, again we had to make adjustments on the trek due to some of our requests and also due to events outside of our control. Raju responded quickly to these to ensure that we were still able to see all of Upper Mustang and return safely to Pokhara. I would not hesitate to recommend Sherpa Expedition and Trekking and will definitely be back to explore some more of the Himalayas with them.
