Highlights
  • Sao Bento Railway Station - The first stone was laid in 1900 by King D. Carlos I, in the place where the former convent of S. Bento de Avé Maria was located.
It is remarkable and deserves to be visited the interior of the wide atrium, lined with twenty thousand pictorial tiles by Jorge Colaço, which represent suggestive historical and ethnographic pictures.
The colorful frieze that is found all around the atrium tells the story of the means of transport in chronological order, from the beginning to the appearance of the train. Below, large historic panels depict scenes from the History of Portugal.
On the north side, the upper picture describes a moment of the Arcos de Valdevez Tournament and the picture below, the fulfillment of Egas Moniz’s word. On the south side, the top panel allows one to imagine the solemn entry of D. João I in Porto, with his bride, D. Filipa de Lencastre and the lower, scenes from the Chronicle of Ceuta.

  • Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) - The Porto Cathedral, like the first belt of city walls, was born in the 12th century on the initiative of its first bishop, D. Hugo.
The temple is also known as the church of Santa Maria do Porto, Nossa Senhora do Porto da Eterna Salvação or Nossa Senhora da Vandoma, patron of the city and inscribed on the municipal coat of arms since the 16th century.

The tomb of the knight João Gordo is found in the chapel of São João Evangelista.

Still in the 14th century, on February 14, 1387, the kings D. João I and D. Filipa de Lencastre were married in the Cathedral of Porto, with the people of Porto dressed in the best clothes and the city was covered with flowers and good smelling herbs for the celebration party.

  • Fonte dos Aliados - Around Avenida dos Aliados develops the “Baixa” of Porto, the meeting point of the city. At the top is the City Hall building, and at the other end of the Avenue, Praça da Liberdade, which has the equestrian statue of D. Pedro IV (19th century), who was also the Emperor of Brazil and a supporter of Liberalism who the city of Porto supported it. Recognized, the king donated his heart to him, kept in the Church of Lapa.

  • São Bento station - Next to this square, visit the São Bento Station with beautiful tiles in the foyer, following Rua das Flores, with its goldsmith shops and the exuberant Baroque façade of the Igreja da Misericórdia, the work of the Baroque architect Nicolau Nasoni.

Bolhão Market.

  • Torre dos Clerigos - Going up the street of São Filipe Néry, you will find the Church and Torre dos Clérigos, ex-libris of the city and the most original work of Nicolau Nasoni. From the top of the tower’s 75 m you can enjoy a superb panoramic view over Porto.

  • Livraria Lello - On the way, enter Livraria Lello to admire the sumptuous wooden decor.

  • Ponte de Dom Luis I - Luís I Bridge
Road and pedestrian with two decks, with a span of 172m and 44.6m of arrow was built in the late 19th century, by the Belgian society Willebroeck, from Brussels with a project by Engineer Teóphile Seyrig, a former Eiffel collaborator.

  • Feira de Espinho - On Monday, it holds one of the largest fairs in the country in Espinho, a variety of colors, experiences and people.

  • Passadicos da Barrinha de Esmoriz - At the limit of the Costa Verde and Costa de Prata, more precisely in the municipalities of Ovar and Espinho are the walkways of Barrinha de Esmoriz / Lagoa de Paramos.
One of the special characteristics of the lagoon is its brackish waters, because, periodically, there is a connection with the sea through a channel in the dune cordon. This place is a biodiversity sanctuary, since more than 100 species of birds nest here, including the Red Heron, in addition to the existence of other vertebrates such as frogs, eels, gymnasts or bats.
The unique characteristics of this natural space were fundamental for Barrinha / Lagoa to be classified as a Site of Community Importance and integrated into the Natura 2000 Network.

  • Maceda - For the 10 km of cycle path that connect Cortegaça to Furadouro, we find a cycle path in the middle of a dyllic setting. Large and strong pines that are lost sight of in the extensive pine forest that crosses until you find a beach of fine and light sand.

  • Reserva Natural Estuario do Douro - Endless nature, the estuary allows you to observe the encounter of the river with the sea, the beauty of nature in its pure state.

  • Centro Interpretativo do Patrimonio da Afurada - Afurada Heritage Interpretive Center was built to preserve and disseminate the region’s cultural heritage. In this interpretive center we can find small boats made by local artisans, photographs, fishing materials. The exhibition is divided into six themes: Place, Earth, Nature, Life, Home and Women.

Very much recommended when you need a break from tourists and crowds - This was a great way to miss the crowds in Porto and Gaia and see the coastal scenery. Easy biking along the river through Gaia to bike pathways along the coast. We had later commitments so skipped cycling through Porto who was very busy with tourists anyway. Marta was engaging and informative. We had a great fish lunch along the coast and then found a good pastry shop. Easy cycling on well maintained bike.

Great ride with a friend - Almost a private tour given by Marta and two of her friends, Tony and Sofia. It was only my friend and I. I hadn’t biked in over 20 years and the ride was easy, only a couple of hills in Porto. The tour is customizable to what you want to do and when you want to stop. Great explanations by Marta and her friends for the sites visited. They we all very friendly. The coast was amazing. However, we spent too much time in Porto and didn’t have time to go all the way to the end in Ovar, so we didn’t see the forest. The bikes were new and comfortable. I highly recommend, much better than city tours with big groups.

See Porto and surrounds - Marta and Lionel offer on bicycles a welcomed alternative to the inner city of Porto as one peddles south from Porto along the Atlantic coast towards Ovar. Well maintained boardwalks and small roads along the coast offer a smooth ride as you chat with Marta about Portuguese life past and present . Both share their experiences and knowledge with insight and we delighted in their candor . They stop whenever you want and still manage to get you to your destination on time . We highly encourage you make this a priority when you visit Porto . Bon Voyage!

Breathtaking views from Porto to Ovar - The views were breathtaking, I did not expect Portugal's coastline to be so spectacular and so diverse in scenery. The tour followed the coast, so we enjoyed the ocean throughout, but the unexpected forest at the end blew me away. The bikes are very comfortable, there were some strategically-placed stops for the best views and I had the huge privilege of doing this tour alone because the other participants cancelled last minute and Marta & Lionel are too nice, so they did the tour for me only. I am incredibly grateful and so happy to have met them. The train ride back was so quick and boring in comparison.

Beautiful scenery - Amazing tour! Marta & Lionel were super friendly and fun. Lionel was very knowledgeable and showed us all the best sights in the city. The bikes were very comfortable and everything ran smoothly. We cycled along gorgeous coastline and stopped for coffee and a sandwich in a lovely bar along the promenade. The cycle through the forest at the end was gorgeous. Marta kindly dropped us to the train station in Ovar afterwards. Thanks Marta & Lionel

Fantastic bike tour from Porto to Ovar - We had a great time on this tour. We started in the city and visited a few places, then headed down to the Ribeira, then crossed the famous bridge and rode on Gaia quayside, the port cellars side. We passed by charming fishing towns and gorgeous beaches, across marshes and through a pine forest. Most of the ride is on designated bike lanes, is mainly flat and the wind is at your back. A thoroughly enjoyable ride and the tour guide is extremely friendly and helpful. He even drove us up the station in Ovar, where we took our train back to Porto. It is a good, long ride which mixes the city and the coast and the bikes were in great condition and very comfortable.
