- Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan - Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is a landmark temple located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok, Thailand. It is named after the Hindu god of dawn, Arun, and is one of Thailand’s most famous landmarks. The temple is characterized by its missile-shaped central spire, which rises from the riverbank and is surrounded by four smaller prangs. The temple compound also includes two sanctuaries and a depository for Buddhist scriptures, among other structures. Adjacent to the river are six open-air pavilions traditionally meant for relaxing or study, but increasingly used these days as docks for tourist boats. Visitors to Wat Arun must wear culturally appropriate clothing, such as trousers or long skirts and tops that cover the shoulders.
