Highlights

Negombo/Colombo - Habarana

Dambulla Cave Temple - Our representative will pick you up at the airport arrival lobby or from Negombo or Colombo.

You will then travel to Habarana in a private car or van with an experienced driver guide who will accompany you throughout the tour.

On the way to Habarana, you will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. This complex consists of five natural caves adorned with well-preserved colorful paintings and images dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 20th century A.D. It is considered the largest collection of cave paintings in South and Southeast Asia.

UNESCO has declared it a world heritage site.

Habarana

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - After breakfast, you will be driven to the Sigiriya royal city (Lion Rock) to hike to the top of Sigiriya rock.

This is one of the must-visit attractions in Sri Lanka, dating back to the 5th century AD and considered the 8th wonder of the world. Our experienced guide will lead you to the summit and explain the history behind it.

UNESCO has declared it a world heritage site.

Minneriya National Park - After hiking Sigiriya, you will return to your hotel and have a few hours to relax at the swimming pool.

Around 2 pm, you will leave the hotel for a safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park to see wild elephants in their natural habitat.

During the dry season, large numbers of Sri Lankan elephants are attracted to the grass fields on the edges of the reservoir. The Minneriya tank supports a large herd, with numbers ranging from 150–200, and some reports suggest as many as 700 elephants.

These elephants migrate from Wasgamuwa National Park and benefit from the food and shelter provided by the park’s forest. Tourists visit Minneriya mainly to see the elephants, especially during the dry season.

After the safari, you will return to your hotel.

Habarana- Polonnaruwa - Habarana

Polonnaruwa - On day three, after breakfast, you will be transferred to Polonnaruwa, about an hour’s drive from Habarana. Here, you will have the chance to visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, which dates back to the 11th century.

Polonnaruwa was the second kingdom of Sri Lanka and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Our professional guide will explain the history of the ancient city.

Pidurangala Rock - In the evening, your chauffeur guide will take you to Pidurangala rock to witness a stunning sunset.

According to ancient chronicles, Prince Kashyapa killed his father, King Dhatusena, and fled to Sigiriya to find a more secure place to avoid retaliation from his half-brother, Mugalan. When King Kashyapa arrived, the monks meditating there were asked to move to nearby Pidurangala. In compensation, King Kashyapa refurbished the temple and made it a prominent place.

Stay overnight in Habarana.

Habarana - Kandy

Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre - On day five, you will proceed to Kandy, with an opportunity to visit the Dambulla vegetable market, the largest in the island. Here, you will learn about native vegetables.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - After visiting the Dambulla vegetable market, you will be driven to Kandy, about a two-hour drive from Dambulla. In Kandy, you will experience a guided tour around the city.

Our guide will then take you to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the most visited tourist attraction on the island.

Located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, the temple houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Historically, the relic has played a significant role in local politics, as it is believed that whoever holds the relic governs the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The Temple of the Tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.

Stay overnight in Kandy.

Kandy to Nuwara-Eliya

Royal Botanical Gardens - The Royal Botanical Gardens are about 5.5 km west of Kandy in the central province of Sri Lanka.

Renowned for its collection of orchids, the garden includes more than 4,000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants, and palm trees. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres.

Ramboda Waterfall - On day five, you will proceed to Nuwara-Eliya after visiting the Peradeniya Botanical Garden. On the way to Nuwara Eliya, you will visit Ramboda Waterfall, tea plantations, and a tea factory.

Stay overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden - On the way to Nuwara Eliya, you will pass some of the most beautiful tea plantations in the country and visit a tea factory to learn about the manufacturing process of some of the world’s best tea.

Nuwara Eliya - Walk around Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya is a city in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Its name means “city on the plain (table land)” or “city of light.” The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered the most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is known for its temperate, cool climate—the coolest area in Sri Lanka.

Nuwara-Eliya to Ella

Nanu Oya railway station - Catch a scenic train ride to Ella. This train ride is considered one of the most scenic in the world, passing through beautiful tea plantations.

You will relax at the hotel in Ella after the train ride.

Ella

Little Adam’s Peak View Point - On day 8, explore Ella in the morning with a hike up to Little Adam’s Peak.

Nine Arches Bridge - In the evening, your chauffeur guide will take you to visit the Nine Arches Bridge.

This bridge is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country, built about 100 years ago and still functioning.

Ravana Ella Falls - After all the hikes, take a refreshing dip in Ravana Waterfall.

Stay overnight in Ella.

Ella to Yala

Lipton’s Seat - Lipton’s Seat is located at Dambetenna in the Haputale Mountain region. This was a favorite lookout point for Sir Thomas Lipton, offering a fabulous view over Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Eastern provinces.

Diyaluma Falls - Diyaluma Falls is 220 m high, making it the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 361st highest in the world. It is situated 6 km from Koslanda in the Badulla District on the Colombo-Badulla highway. The falls are formed by Punagala Oya, a tributary of Kuda Oya, which in turn is a tributary of Kirindi Oya.

Yala

Yala National Park - Full-day safari at Yala National Park.

Yala National Park has the highest density of leopards in the world, giving you a great opportunity to spot these elusive animals, along with elephants, water buffaloes, crocodiles, sloth bears, deer, jackals, and many bird species.

Culture & Travel Without the Stress & Hassle! - Amazing trip, beautiful country and we got to see the best of Sri Lanka within the short time we had (10 days). I'd highly recommend Knows Lanka Tours as a tour provider. Great communication, itinerary was spot on and the accommodation was perfect for what we wanted. They took the stress out of planning and booking everything ourselves and having the driver at hand made travelling so comfortable and easy! The only recommendation I'd have is perhaps add another rest day if you want to incorporation some R&R if you have travelled a distance to get there, perhaps 3 rest days with no activities or tours.

The most amazing experience - Asanka was the most amazing driver and tour guide we could have asked for. He was so organised and made our 2 weeks travelling Sri Lanka so easy. Asanka’s knowledge of the wildlife and birds is phenomenal. We had such an amazing time with him on safari, pointing out animals and birds that we’d never spot! We learned so much about beautiful Sri Lanka on every journey with him. We always felt safe and confident with Asanka’s plans, he was always organised for any events. I would recommend Asanka to anyone thinking of traveling to Sri Lanka. He takes out the hassle of traveling. His car is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. He is a kind, funny man who will enlighten you to the best that Sri Lanka has to offer.

Fabulous Trip round Northern Sri Lanka - We had a fantastic and stress free trip with Asanka. We felt safe and very comfortable and we were able to adapt our plans on a daily basis to see different things. The van was very comfortable and we were able to get around easily in spite of the difficulties with fuel. We would recommend Asanka without reservation.

Amazing Asanka - We organised our seven day tour with Asanka prior to leaving the UK. Email and WhatsApp correspondence was prompt and detailed. He picked us up from Unawatuna and from the beginning, it was clear Asanka was a great guy, he has a great sense of humour and fun to be with. His vehicle was clean, comfortable with plenty of room and his English is brilliant. He has immense knowledge of the animals, history, fauna and flora and an incredible passion for his country. Asanka is interested in his clients likes and dislikes and recommended some great places to eat and see, and gave us opportunities to experience other things en route, which were not on the initial itinerary. Asanka was everything and more from a tour guide. He went above and beyond our expectations. I would not hesitate in recommending Asanka and when we return to Sri Lanka, we will definantly be meeting up with him again for another tour.

Great Experience, Highly Recommend - My husband and I decided to book with Asanka @ Knows Lanka Tours & Travel for a recent holiday in Sri Lanka. I emailed Asanka with what we would like to do and he quickly replied with an itinerary for us. Asanka is a very skilled driver (glad we didn’t have to drive), speaks excellent English and is very knowledgeable and passionate about his country. He recommended some great places to eat, the best things to see and was very flexible if you wanted to change something. Asanka was great company and we really enjoyed the time we spent with him. We would highly recommend him if you are looking for someone to show you the best of Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to Covid 19 and we only got to see and do half the things we were hoping to do. Asanka went above and beyond at this very difficult time to make sure we were safe and informed with what was happening. Thankyou Asanka for looking after us at a very stressful time for both you and your family, we hope to be able to visit Sri Lanka again soon and we will definitely be in touch so we can finish what we started! An amazing trip with the perfect driver/guide - highly recommended! - Our family of two adults and two teenagers travelled around Sri Lanka with Asanka as our driver/guide for two weeks. We loved everything about the trip and we can't wait to return to explore more of this beautiful country - with Asanka again, of course! I chose Asanka as our guide based on the recommendations of others on TripAdvisor. Part of me felt that I might have been taking a bit of a risk booking a driver for two weeks based on the recommendations of people I had never even met. However, there was something about the way others described Asanka that made me feel confident in my choice. Then, when I first started communicating with Asanka, it was clear that I had made the right choice. Asanka was always prompt with his replies and had great ideas for our itinerary while always listening to what we wanted to do. We usually travel independently so travelling with the same driver for two weeks was a big change for us. As it turned out, it was the perfect way to see Sri Lanka. We wouldn't have seen anywhere near as much if we had travelled independently. Our two weeks with Asanka were amazing. From the time we met him, we knew that we had made the right decision to choose Asanka as our driver/guide. Asanka is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his country and he went out of his way to give us fantastic experiences - nature, history, food, culture and so much more. He recommended good places to eat, the best things to see and made sure we got great photos. Asanka was everything we could have wanted in a guide. He was patient, honest, reliable and fun (my teenagers loved him). He has a great sense of humour and is a very safe driver. His van is modern, comfortable and always clean. We felt safe at all times and had complete trust in Asanka. I have already recommended Asanka to others who are planning to visit Sri Lanka and I will continue to do so. Before we left, we talked to Asanka about other parts of the country we would like to visit and discussed an itinerary for our next trip. When we return (and we hope that will be soon), we will definitely be travelling with Asanka again.

Asanka is passionate about offering the best experience of his country. I warmly recommend his services not only because he is a perfect driver but also because he showed us everything we wanted to see and offered us the best travel experience we could expect! Excellent - My partner and I had a fantastic time with Asanka. As we visited in the summer he took us into the tea country as well as over to the beautiful beaches of the east coast, Sigiriya and Kandy were, of course, also on the itinerary. Asanka is a lovely, friendly guide and we'd definitely recommend him to anyone visiting Sri Lanka.

The best experience - My friend and I contacted Asanka for our 12 day tour of Sri Lanka. He organised our itinerary and included 3 days rest by beach that we asked for. We couldn’t have asked for better. Asanka collected us from the airport and brought us to each destination, every hotel we were happy with and had great food, some were off the beaten track but with good reason as they had the most amazing views. Asanka brought us to each activity and allowed us to do them ourselves, however a tour guide could be arranged if we needed. He was always waiting for us after hikes etc. we never had to wait! We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide, we were really lucky we chose Asanka. Thank you for our wonderful holiday !
