Highlights

Cusco - Kilometer 104 - Aguas Calientes

Winay Wayna - Starting the 2-day Inca Trail hike from Cusco at 4:00 am, we embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Ollantaytambo for breakfast, followed by a train ride to kilometer 104, the trail’s starting point. The 15km trek along the Classic Inca Trail through the Sacred Valley features Inca sites and a variety of flora. A highlight is visiting Winay Wayna, where we enjoy a mountain-view picnic. As we pass through a lush cloud forest, participants may spot various plants, flowers, and wildlife. Arriving at the Sun Gate in the afternoon offers stunning views of Machu Picchu with fewer tourists, perfect for photos. After capturing the iconic Guard House shot, a bus takes us to Aguas Calientes, where you have free time until dinner, with optional activities like a dip in the hot springs, ending the day with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco.

Machu Picchu - On the second day, the main attraction is the magical Machu Picchu experience. Starting with a hotel pick-up, you walk to the bus station for the 05:30 am departure to Machu Picchu, a scenic 30-minute ride. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, a passport and Machu Picchu checkpoint precedes a guided tour that delves into the history, geology, architecture, and biodiversity of this new wonder of the world. The visit lasts about 2 hours, followed by an optional hike to Huaynapicchu Mountain for those who have booked this separate entrance ticket at $65 per person. After returning to Aguas Calientes, lunch is provided before heading to the train station for the journey back to Ollantaytambo. Our driver will be waiting at Ollantaytambo to take you back to Cusco, with a drop-off at your hotel around 19:30.

Great Express Inca Trail with Jacob! - We had a great 2 day Inca trail with AB Expeditions. Everything was really well organised and professional. We really liked the fact that we were a small group (only 3 ppl) and the delicious picnic for lunch that our porter, Samuel prepared. Our guide, Jacob was a really kind, funny and knowledgable guide who was happy to take an endless amount of good photos of us!! Special thanks to him for keeping me motivated to complete the trek despite the hundreds of stairs :-)

Two-Day Inca Trail Muchos Recommended - The Two-Day Inca Trail hike with our guide, Mijail, was amazing. The first day was hiking the trail and the second day was taking a van up to Machu Picchu to walk its grounds. If I could turn back time, I would choose the Two-Day option again (as opposed to the one-day and four-day options). There were breathtaking sights walking the Inca Trail. Mijail provided interesting information, not only about the Incas but of Cusco, Peru, and its people. He was always making sure we were safe, prepared, on time, and getting the most out of the experience - even playing a traditional instrument at one point, while we soaked in all the ancient Inca spirit. There were a lot of logistics that we did not have to worry about! Just show up. I also appreciated knowing that Mijail grew up in those parts and Quechua is his first language. There weren't too many mosquitoes despite the Quechua name of one of the places, which I think translated to Land of the Mosquitoes? You'll need to be smart about protecting yourself from the intense sun. There are rest station huts at two intervals. We saw a chipmunk, butterflies, some birds, and a big millipede - lots of cool plants and trees. Our group of six got separated because of different paces (which I found better than having to wait for everyone - although there was some waiting at some checkpoints) and Mijail was cool about running back and forth to see us. The food was tasty (bring soap, hand sanitizer). The drinks at the restaurants are not included and were pricey (about $15-30+ soles). We had a short time (after dinner and 1 hour before the train ride) to explore Aguas Calientes. Our hotel room was fine. We were able to store our luggage there after check-out. It was nice that our stuff for the next day and toiletries were transported to the hotel ahead of us, so we didn't have to carry it while on the Inca Trail. We had porters take our lunch up to a certain point on the Inca Trail so we could have a nice picnic there. Mario our driver did a bang-up job. Awesome. Muchos recommended.

Fantastic Experience with AB and Gio - The views and the trek lived up to their billing Both AB and or guide Gio made it even more memorable. Gio was very knowledgeable about the geography, culture and history of the region. He also patiently helped us when we struggled in the challenging sections of the Inca trail, Wayna Pichu Climb, and Palcoyyo Mountain. The VEGAN food provided during the 2 trips exceeded our expectations. Thank you Gio!

Great Guides, and a Local Tour Operator! - Reached out to AB Expeditions in January 2024 to book our 2 day Inca trail hike. From our first point of contact until the day of the hike in April, AB Expeditions maintained constant contact and was able to ensure that we were all given proper updates logistically to ensure we have everything we need before the big day. We were introduced to Mijail our guide a couple of days before the hike and gave us a quick briefing to ensure we are ready. During the hike, Mijail a local from Ollantaytambo was able to share his roots and knowledge of his people and how his ancestors lived. This was very important to our group as we wanted to understand the Inca culture from a local’s perspective. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend AB Expeditions and would fully support them as they are a local tour organization. Thank you!!

2 Day Incan Trail with Rosbel/Papichurro - We had an amazing trip with AB Expeditions. The highlight was our guide Rosbel aka Papichurro who kept the trip fun, lighthearted, and enjoyable all around. His knowledge of the area and answers to our random questions were great. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a good and easy trip. We came during the beginning of the busy season so do expect some business but overall would recommend a visit.

2 day Inca Trail with camping - Highly recommend AB expeditions for your tour around Cusco! We did the 2 day Inca trail with camping and had the best time. Tony was our guide and was so well organized and friendly. He gave us great information along the trail and at Machu Pichu. The food was delicious and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. This company is owned locally in Cusco so also great to support a local business. Thank you AB expeditions!

Incredible experience! Excellent guide! - What an incredible experience! AB Expeditions and their staff did an exceptional job of organizing, communicating, and preparing us for our two day journey. Our guide Jose was extremely knowledgeable about the Inca culture and history, and provided a great experience - I would ask for him by name! We met for 20 minutes the day before the trip to coordinate pickup times, finalize packing lists, discuss any food allergies or concerns about the trip. This ensured every step went smoothly and efficiently, coordinating ground transportation, train tickets, and admission fees. Day one was an early start from km104 and a hike to the Sun Gate. A little over halfway through we stopped for a professionally prepared lunch of chicken, quinoa, vegetables, breads, local dishes, and dessert. They even went out of their way to surprise my fiancé with a birthday cake and present. The food was delicious!!! Having done a few tours and a professional traveler, I can without question say that Jose was one of the best tour guides I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Excellent English and Spanish translation, professional, personable, and I can’t wait to work with him again on another trip!
