Giza pyramids, Sphinx, Sakkara, Memphis with Lunch

Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Our tour guide will provide insights about The Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest Egyptian pyramid, which served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, who reigned during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Constructed in the early 26th century BC, it took approximately 27 years to complete.

Khafre’s Pyramid - Next, we proceed to the second pyramid. This pyramid was likely looted during the First Intermediate Period. In the Nineteenth Dynasty, the overseer of temple construction removed casing stones to build a temple in Heliopolis under the orders of Ramesses II.

Menkaure Pyramid - The Menkaure Pyramid is the smallest of the three main pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex, situated on the Giza Plateau on the southwestern outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It is believed to have been constructed as the tomb of the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure.

Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a human head and a lion’s body. Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is thought to represent Pharaoh Khafre.

Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara is home to the oldest complete stone building complex known in history, the Pyramid of Djoser, built during the Third Dynasty. Sixteen other Egyptian kings also constructed pyramids at Saqqara, which are now in various states of preservation. High officials added private funeral monuments to this necropolis throughout the Pharaonic period.

The Sphinx of Memphis - Here, we visit the first and oldest capital in the world, Memphis. It was believed to be under the protection of the god Ptah, the patron of craftsmen. Its great temple, Hut-ka-Ptah (meaning “Enclosure of the ka of Ptah”), was one of the city’s most prominent structures. The name of this temple, rendered in Greek as Aἴγυπτoς (Ai-gy-ptos) by Manetho, is thought to be the etymological origin of the modern English name Egypt.

Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - Saint Virgin Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, known as the Hanging Church, is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, dating back to the third century. It belongs to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria.
