Siem Reap To Beng Mealea And Koh Ker
Beng Mealea - A spectacular sight to behold, Beng Mealea, located about 68km northeast of Siem Reap, is one of the most mysterious temples at Angkor, as nature has well and truly run riot. Exploring this Titanic of temples, built to the same floor plan as Angkor Wat, is the ultimate Indiana Jones experience. Built in the 12th century under Suryavarman II, Beng Mealea is enclosed by a massive moat measuring 1.2km by 900m.
The temple used to be utterly consumed by jungle, but some of the dense foliage has been cut back and cleaned up in recent years.
Koh Ker Temple - Koh Ker is a 10th-century temple complex in the north Cambodian jungle. A former capital of the Khmer Empire, the site is now remote and heavily forested. The main structure, Koh Ker Temple, is a stepped 7-tiered pyramid. The large rectangular tank, Rahal Baray, supplied water to the complex. The Prasat Krahom, meaning “red temple,” is known for its sandstone carvings, while Prasat Pram is covered in strangler figs.

This travel plan is an excellent choice for celebrities looking to explore the Cambodian culture and lifestyle, while embarking on an adventure off the beaten path. Our journey begins with an exploration of the lost and unrestored Beng Mealea temple, followed by a trip to the lost city of Koh Ker, the perfect spot to visit the former capital of the Khmer empire, nestled in the forest. We stay overnight in Sra Aem village, and visit the mountain top temple of Preah Vihear the following morning. Our journey continues through rural villages to Banteay Chhmar, a wonderful temple hidden away from the usual tourist spots, and we end the day at the bat cave. We explore Battambang city, strolling around town to see French colonial buildings, a rice paper village, a traditional Khmer house, fish paste market, and we visit the hilltop temple of Banan. We also experience a Bamboo train ride. The day ends with a drive straight to Siem Reap, timed to arrive by sunset.
