Nairobi to Masai Mara National Park

Maasai Mara National Reserve - 7:30 am. Your driver/guide will pick you up at your hotel or the location of your choice. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Safari Jeep and we’ll head for the park, passing the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Along our route, we’ll enjoy some rest stops and take in the imposing scenery.

We’ll be heading into Masai country and you may spot herdsmen wrapped in their colorful shukas, as we near the reserve.

We should get to the park around lunchtime. You’ll freshen up and have lunch at your safari lodge or tented camp.

Then, we’ll go for the first of many game drives over the next 3 days. Your driver/guide will share his knowledge of this beautiful land and the variety of wildlife you’re sure to encounter.

If you have any special requests, areas, or wildlife you’d like to see, be sure and let him know.

Masai Mara National Park

Maasai Mara National Reserve - Welcome to safari time - we’ll get up early to view the first golden light and the stirrings of the park’s wildlife. Today, we’ll enjoy maximum viewing with unlimited game drives across the vast savannahs.

We’ll be tracking the big cats along with elephants, giraffes, buffalos, and the other 95 mammals found in this world-famous park.

If you’re here during the Great Migration (July - October), you’ll encounter the most fantastic movement of animals on our planet. Thousands of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest cross into the park over the Mara River on their timeless parade searching for taller grasses to consume.

The river is also home to pods of hippos and waiting crocodiles, eyeing the vast herds crossing into their territory.

If you would like to add a cultural aspect to your Masai Mara safari, tell your driver/guide to arrange a visit with the Maasai in their local village.

Masai Mara National Park - Nairobi

Maasai Mara National Reserve - Let’s start our last safari day with an early game drive. We’ll look for favorite wildlife or any you still want to check off your list.

If you haven’t already spotted cheetah, keep an eye out for them moving stealthily in the bush, along with jackal and hyena.

Breakfast will follow and then one more game drive through the park as we head back to Nairobi.

We’ll stop for lunch on the way to the city, along with other rest stops.

The drive will give you plenty of time to dwell on and talk about your 3 days of Masai Mara adventure.

We will be back in Nairobi in the late afternoon and bring you to your hotel, the airport, or place of your choosing.

Now you’ve got the pictures, memories, and stories to tell. We hope you had fun and a good taste of the safari adventure. It’s been our pleasure to show you the Masai Mara. A big thanks from all of us at Africa Kenya Safaris!

An Excellent Experience - This trip was incredible. We had brilliant communication from the company from the start, everything was very clear. Our driver, Patrick, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure we had the most perfect trip. Our accommodation was Pride Inn Mara Camp, which was absolutely beautiful. The staff here were very accommodating, and the food was 10/10. Not a fault about the whole trip. Would just recommend though, as the day starts early in the morning, and the sun isn’t out yet, it can be quite cold first and last thing, make sure you bring a jumper. Also, make sure you bring cash for tipping

A++ experience - A++ experience from start to finish. Great communication with Steve in sales as we organized the trip. Transfers with Nicholas and Denis were prompt and comfortable. Rama, our guide in the Maasai is truly wonderful at his job. His ability to spot wildlife while transporting us safely and comfortably made our trip exciting and memorable. Many thanks to the entire team for everything done on our behalf.

One of a lifetime! - We arranged an 8 day custom itinerary going from Nairobi to Masai Mara, then to Amboseli, then Diani beach, and back to Nairobi. This trip was a success thanks to Onesmus, the person who arranged the trip, and the driver named WAIGANJO (alias MICHAEL) who was with us during the entire Masai Mara and Amboseli game drives. Africa Kenya Safaris was professional and made our trip amazing, one of a lifetime! Onesmus planned our trip and ensured everything proceeded smoothly. Communication was easy and efficient (both through email and through WhatsApp). I cannot recommend Onesmus highly enough. Our driver was WAIGANJO and again I cannot recommend him highly enough. He knew exactly where to go and ensured we had the best animal viewings: we saw all the BIG FIVE!! With him you are guaranteed to have a great time and learn a lot about every animal! This was the trip of a lifetime and I highly recommend this company!

Bucket List Experience - Africa Kenya Safaris really delivered on this trip. We did the 3 day private safari trip with the flying option, and stayed at Ashnil Mara Camp. Everything was organised perfectly from start to finish. From the first morning of the pickup at the hotel until the dropoff at the airport, we didnt have to worry about a thing. Special thanks to our safari driver and tour guide James Mwangi Njoroge, he really knew the Maasai Mara like the back of his hand, and he took us to all the best viewing spots. Ashnil Mara Camp was also an amazing place, with buffet food options for breakfast, lunch and supper, with comfortable and amazing rooms. The Camp is also located perfectly as there is alot of wildlife nearby and it is situated along the Mara River. We would definitly recommend Africa Kenya Safaris and use them for our next trip.

The Best of the Best - My experience with Africa Kenya Safaris was nothing short of exceptional. I used them in June 2023 for a Nairobi National Park tour and had a superb time (for some reason, my review on TripAdvisor has disappeared). My trip to Masai Mara was sensational -- the "endless plains" of the Mara were brimming with spectacular vistas and abundant wildlife. My guide Abubakar (whose father was also a national park driver) was incredibly knowledgeable about the habits and lifestyles of the animals we encountered and could sight them from afar (I'd swear he had "binocular eyes"! :) Abu is a jovial and curious guy, so we hit it off and had many conversations on a variety of topics. As for the safari, we encountered a small cackle of hyenas on the prowl, a cheetah and her four cubs (and another coalition of two cheetahs hunting), a leopard feasting on a reptile (pangolin?) under a mara bush and another resting in a tree with the corpse of a fresh kill hanging nearby, several dazzles of zebras and towers of giraffes and memories of elephants, and too many bird species to mention, as well as tons of impala, Grant's and Thomson's gazelles, cape buffalo, topis, warthogs, Coke's hardebeests, elands, hippos, antelopes, and a wildebeest or two (the migration south to the Serengeti -- part of the same geographical plain -- had already occurred for the season), as well as the occasional mongoose or baboon. And, of course, lions -- we saw two brothers lazing near a bush, eyeing a female nearby, and the random lone male lounging under a tree. The Mara has over 400 species of birds providing an endless variety of stunning plumage. Abu knew all of them (he also keeps a bird book in the front for reference on the off chance he encounters one that stumps him). As a musician, one of the things I loved was listening to the the birdsong on the Mara. It's sensationally varied and acts as a soundtrack to the tour experience. Another option I highly recommend is a trip to a Masai village, where you will experience (and participate in, if you so choose) a ceremonial dance and tour the dwellings and meet the residents and see them create fire and have the opportunity to purchase handmade souvenirs. I stayed at Zebra Plains and was very impressed with the setting -- I could watch the animals beyond the boundary as I ate my meals -- and the quarters, a private tent that is spacious, clean, charming, and romantic, with a seating area looking out on the Mara. The food was also excellent and the staff of over 70 incredibly welcoming and amicable. I can't recommend Africa Kenya Safaris highly enough -- in addition to the benefit of Abu's expertise, the personnel are responsive and professional -- Steve, their tour coordinator, is readily available and quick to text; Jomo, my driver to the airport, was courteous and quite pleasant. I even spoke with Humphrey the owner, who wants to make sure that your experience is a satisfying one. All in all, a superior, affordable safari experience. :)

Amazing safari at Masai Mara - We had an amazing time during our safari to Masai Mara. Our guide Charles was very kind and did everything he could to show us all the animals in the parc . He also knew a lot about the animals so we learnt a lot during our tour. The stay that Africa Kenya safaris arranged was also excellent (we stayed in Zebra plains mara river camp). The whole safari was a great experience!

The Best In the Business - Words cannot explain how amazing our trip was with Africa Kenya Safaris. Please book with this company —they are absolutely wonderful. I must have emailed 20 tours companies that either advertised fake pricing or were unresponsive. This tour company was the epitome of honesty and professionalism. The trip was run seamlessly from planning emails with Steve —who graciously answered 1000 questions. He is the rockstar of logistics and kindness. Joseph was the world’s most amazing guide with years of experience. I swear he can hear an animal from 50 miles away. We saw every animal, including lions, cheetahs, and leopards on our 3 day tour. You don’t immediately appreciate this until you run into people who say that they barely saw anything in a week —an experiences guide, when Masai Mara is vast makes a world of difference. When you see the other tour guides chat, you can tell everyone considers Joseph a true leader of the community and hold him in the utmost regard. We were so lucky to have him! Humphrey, the tour company owner is wonderful as well. At the end of our tour, we called him and he asked us our thoughts and opinions which I thought was a lovely touch. Accommodations were perfect as well. We would book with them again in an instant. Our favorite tour company on our East Africa adventure and possibly of all time. Please support these wonderful people, you won’t regret it.

An unforgetable trip - The drive to Nairobi and back went very well. And we enjoyed the game drives through Masai mara very much. Our driver Abu is a very good chauffeur and he tells a lot interresting things about the animals and maby more imporant, he knows how to find them. It was an unforgetable Experience. The stay at the Mara Simba lodge was very good, so much more luxury as I am normaly used to. The breakfast at the first stop on day one was a bit strangs for us, but you could see that they tryed there best. If I have the change to go on a safari trip again, I would centerly make the booking with you and ask for a driver like Abu.
