Gyeongbokgung Palace - Designated as a historic site in 1963, Gyeongbokgung Palace, also known as Bukgung due to its northern location in the capital, was initially constructed as a royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty. After being destroyed in the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, it lay in ruins for many years until it was reconstructed during King Gojong’s reign in the late Joseon Dynasty.

Insadong - Insa-dong is a cherished area in the city center where traditional items are traded. The area is a maze of galleries, traditional craft shops, antique stores, teahouses, restaurants, and cafes, making it popular among both young and middle-aged visitors for its unique charm.

The Blue House - The Blue House served as the office and residence of the President of the Republic of Korea. Located at Cheong Wa Dae-ro 1 (Sejong-ro), Jongno-gu, Seoul, it has been the presidential office from the Rhee Syng-man administration to the Moon Jae-in administration. The guesthouse is still in use today.

Changgyeonggung Palace - Originally the site where King Sejong ascended to the throne in 1418, Changgyeonggung Palace was also the residence of King Taejong after his ascension.

Changdeokgung Palace - Designated as a historic site on January 18, 1963, Changdeokgung Palace was built for the three surviving queens (Sejo, Deokjong, and Yejong) of the time. Construction began in February 1483 and was completed in September 1484. The palace includes structures such as Myeongjeongjeon, Munjeongjeon, Sunyeongjeon, and several others, with names given by notable figures like Seo Geo-jeong and Kim Jong-jik.

Deoksugung - Initially the site of Prince Wolsan’s house, Deoksugung Palace became a temporary residence after the Imjin War and was later renamed Gyeongunggung Palace during Gwanghaegun’s reign. In 1907, it was renamed Deoksugung Palace to wish for King Gojong’s longevity. The palace features several buildings constructed during King Gojong’s reign and was a significant political site during his late reign. It was designated as a historic site on January 18, 1963.

Gyeonghuigung Palace - Built in 1617 during the 9th year of Gwanghaegun’s reign, Gyeonghuigung Palace served as a royal residence for 10 generations. Located in the west of Seoul’s five major palaces, it was also known as Seogwol and was connected to Gyeongungung Palace (Deoksugung Palace) by Honggyo.

Seoul Hanok Village Tour

Bukchon Hanok Village - Situated at the foot of Bugaksan Mountain between Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Geumwon (Secret Garden), Bukchon Hanok Village is a hanok preservation district. It was home to high-ranking officials, royalty, and nobles, featuring tile-roofed houses from the Joseon Dynasty.

Jongmyo Shrine - Located in Hunjeong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Jongmyo Shrine is a royal shrine where ancestral rites were performed for the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. King Taejo Lee Seong-gye, who founded the Joseon Dynasty, prioritized building Jongmyo as it symbolized the dynasty’s roots. Construction began shortly after his ascension in 1392.

Namsangol Hanok Village - This village features five hanoks, including the homes of notable figures like Lee Seung-up and Kim Chun-young. Visitors can explore the indoor spaces of these traditional houses and participate in cultural programs such as wearing hanbok, folding Korean paper, writing Korean letters, drinking traditional tea, and experiencing traditional etiquette and oriental medicine.
