Highlights

Ha Giang – Nam Dam: Begin the motorbike journey, explore Lung Khuy Cave, and stay with the Dzao Minority community at our homestay

Ha Giang Adventure - Discover the enchanting Ha Giang province by motorbike. Marvel at the scenic rice terraces cascading down the mountainsides. Navigate the winding roads etched into the mountains. Engage with locals who have only recently been exposed to Western visitors. Ha Giang promises an unforgettable adventure.

Our guide will meet you around 9am. The morning will be dedicated to honing your motorbike riding skills. Around 1pm, we’ll regroup to commence the trip. During lunch, you’ll receive a motorbike briefing before heading to Nam Dam village, accompanied by a local guide.

Quan Ba Heaven Gate - The 45km drive is breathtaking, passing through traditional villages, stunning valleys, and ascending mountains. We’ll make several stops for photos and breaks. Among the highlights are the Fairy Bosom hills in Quan Ba and a UNESCO-recognized geopark.

We’ll spend the night in Nam Dam village with a host family. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore the village, hike, assist the host family with dinner preparations, or simply relax. Dinner includes local rice or corn wine, known as “happy water.”

The journey continues the next day after breakfast.

Mun Homestay & Bungalow - Mun homestay is run by a Dzao family we’ve partnered with for years. Meet Pay and her family, your hosts for the night.

Nam Dam – Dong Van: Visit a Hemp Linen making village and traverse the stunning Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark

Lung Khuy Cave - After breakfast at our homestay, we’ll pack up and set off for the next leg of our adventure.

Ascend to Lung Khuy cave atop a mountain for spectacular views and cave exploration.

Lung Tam Linen Cooperative - We’ll visit Lung Tam, a picturesque village known for its Hemp Linen production. Watch the entire process and try your hand at rolling out the cloth—it’s surprisingly challenging!

Yen Minh - We’ll stop for lunch in the valley town of Yen Minh.

Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark - After lunch, we’ll head to Dong Van, a guest favorite. Plan your trip to coincide with Sunday, when the highland market takes place. It’s a vibrant social event where locals buy, sell, and socialize.

Dinh Vua Meo - Visit the Mansion of the opium king, a notable architectural site in the region.

Lung Cu Flag Tower - Stand at Vietnam’s northernmost point. From Lung Cu Flag Tower, you can see across the border into China.

Dong Van - Arrive at Dong Van town center, check into our hotel, and stay the night.

Dong Van - Meo Vac – Du Gia: Hike Ma Pi Leng Pass, visit Tu San Alley, and continue to Du Gia

Chợ Đồng Văn - Check with us for local market dates and times. It’s a cultural experience not to be missed.

Our Friday departures always include the Sunday market experience in either Dong Van or Meo Vac.

Ma Pi Leng Pass - One of Vietnam’s most scenic roads, perfect for photos. We’ll hike atop the pass for four hours.

Mã Pí Lèng Pass - Explore the mystical Tu San Abyss Alley, located between Meo Vac and Dong Van districts. The cliffs here reach nearly 1000 meters in height, with a depth of about 1000 meters.

Tu San Abyss Alley was formed millions of years ago when the region was underwater. As the water receded, this unique geological feature emerged.

Meo Vac - After Ma Pi Leng, we’ll stop for lunch in the charming district capital of Meo Vac before continuing to Du Gia.

Bao Lac - We’ll head to a small village in the Bao Lac National Reservation after lunch. The 90 km road is a favorite among motorbike riders. We’ll stay in a homestay for the night.

Bao Lac - via Me Pia Pass: Enter Cao Bang Province

Bao Lac - Bao Lac National Park protects tropical evergreen forest ecosystems, including limestone karsts. We’ll walk to a waterfall and relax in the morning before riding back to Ha Giang.

Pac Bo Cave - Our next stop is Pac Bo, a historically significant site where Ho Chi Minh re-entered Vietnam in 1941. We’ll spend the night here.

Pac Po - Ban Gioc Waterfall: Enjoy the scenic valleys along the border

Pac Bo Cave - After breakfast, we’ll set off for the next part of our journey.

Trà Lĩnh District - We’ll pass through this border town between Vietnam and China on our way to Ban Gioc Waterfall.

Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - Ban Gioc Waterfall is one of Vietnam’s most stunning natural attractions. Located in Cao Bang province, the falls are 30 meters high and 300 meters wide, making them the widest in the country. Despite improved access and viral videos showcasing their beauty, Ban Gioc remains relatively off the beaten path, with few visitors outside weekends and holidays.

Ban Gioc Waterfalls - Cao Bang

Chùa Phật Tích Trúc Lâm Bản Giốc - This pagoda is the first to be constructed at the northern border in Dam Thuy, Trung Khanh, and Cao Bang.

Nguom Ngao Cave - Located in Gun village, Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Nguom Ngao Cave is a natural treasure discovered in 1921 and opened to tourists in 1996. It was recognized as a national scenic landscape in 1998. The cave’s name means “Tiger Cave” in the Tay ethnic language, as it was once home to many tigers.

Phuc Sen Forging Village - This village in Phuc Sen commune, Quang Uyen district, is renowned for its traditional forging tools, a unique cultural aspect of the Nung people.

Cao Bang - On our way back to Cao Bang city, we’ll stop at a blacksmith workshop in Phuc Sen village where you can forge your own knife. We’ll arrive in Cao Bang city around 2 pm. If you’re catching our transfer back to Hanoi, you’ll be dropped off in Hanoi center around 9 pm.

Located in the northeastern province of Cao Bang province, the falls are 30 meters high and 300 meters across, making Ban Gioc the widest waterfall in the country. Despite improved road access and public transportation connections, and the popularity of several recent viral drone videos showcasing the majesty of the falls, Ban Gioc is still a relatively off-the-beaten-path sight. A Great Trip with Ha Giang Adventure - Our experience with Ha Giang Adventure was truly amazing! After being urged by our friends, we decided to embark on the Ha Giang loop with this company. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made. Everything, from the pick-up to the accommodations, was perfectly arranged. The places we stayed were clean, comfortable, and nestled in serene villages. The food was also a delightful treat for our taste buds. Our guides, Nu and Su, played a crucial role in making us feel at ease and secure throughout the journey. They were fluent in English, knowledgeable, and seasoned in their field. I wholeheartedly recommend this adventure to everyone. Trust me, you won't regret embarking on this incredible journey!

A beautiful thrilling adventure! - After 6 weeks in Vietnam, this is by far the most amazing experience we did. We were pillions and our tour leaders and riders was Chinh and Khanh. Chinh is a great leader, he kept us safe, informed and showed us so many beautiful sights Vietnam has to offer. There is a great joy riding on the back of a motorbike in Vietnam. It was such a beautiful and thrilling adventure.

Highlight from my all travels - 200% recommended! I truly enjoyed 6 day motorbike trip with locals and adventurous travellers from all over the world. With Ha Giang adventure, a group is up to 6 people ( 4 people in my case) and all of our guides speak English whereas other tour operators have 40-50 people in a group and not all the guides speak English. All of our guides care our safety, and are informative and very friendly. And Big kudos to My guide/driver “Chai”, he is knowledgeable, fun and great at taking photos and singing 🤭 He drove safely no matter how bad road condition or long distance ( 290km) was. Thanks to him, my first motorbike trip was super fun. I miss Karaoke time with him. Ban Gioc waterfall is a MUST to visit. On the way from Ha Giang, the scenery is super beautiful, especially Khau Coc Cha Mountain Pass. With Ha Giang Adventures, you will have lots of tasty local food, stay at lovely Homestay, experience and learn minority’s culture and have great companions.

An incredible journey - My wife and I had a wonderful six days completing the "Ha Giang loop plus" tour with Ha Giang Adventure. Our guide Cuong (aka King Kong) was fantastic - he taught us so much about the region and Vietnamese people and culture, as well as being really lovely and great fun to be around. We felt like we had made a friend. Motorcycling the Ha Giang loop is a fantastic experience (a real highlight from all our travels) which we would so recommend to anyone coming to SE Asia / Vietnam. Ha Giang Adventure do an excellent job with their tour - we were just two of us with our guide (we hadn't booked a private tour specifically but I guess no one else wanted the same dates as us!) which is a real contrast to all other companies where we saw groups of 20-30. They really focus on safety, making sure we had proper protection, a good bike, etc. Cuong also checked on us lots and would adjust his speed based on how we were doing. Their choice of accomodation was also excellent and really varied (one of the nights we were camping and it was so much fun to eat dinner under the stars!) - we particularly loved the homestays and eating with local families. The whole trip felt like a real immersion into life in northern Vietnam, which was a real privilege. If you do the six day tour, we would just warn that the fourth day is a really long one (290km in one day took us about 8 hours of driving) which was pretty tiring for a couple who don't spend that much time on a motorbike in one go. It meant we got to the camping site for the evening which was fantastic but do think about whether you'd be happy with that much driving. It is more expensive than many other tours on the market but, for that, you get better gear and a more private and personalised experience.

Great scenery and guide, 2 of 5 days food & lodging unsanitary. - Amazing scenery, fantastic guide who was safe, courteous and informative. The first 4 days of the 6 day Ha Giang loop were well planned - basic but clean accommodations. The 5th night our tent had water inside & a zipper that wouldn’t close. 6th night we slept on the floor at a home stay where sheets & pillows that had not been washed, mosquito net with holes, mice. Unfortunate way to end the trip.
