Once in a lifetime experience - An absolutely unforgettable experience! Donald was hands down the best tour guide I’ve had so far. He was incredibly nice, funny and knowledgeable. He was a treasure trove of knowledge and had an incredible eye. He went out of his way to find us wildlife and did a great job of helping us see and capture some of them. And did I mention he was funny? His energy and humor can’t be matched! Oh, and the coffee/tea and cookies were a fantastic touch! The view for sunset is great! I highly recommend doing this!!

Great experience in Monteverde. - We really enjoyed our sunset and night walk tour. It is a private reserve. We got to see many tarantulas and birds. Our guide Donald is super professional.

Night guided tour - Went on the woodpecker night guided tour with Donald in March 2024. It was great to have a private tour with just my friends and I. We had some tea & coffee before we began which was a lovely touch. Donald was very informative and knowledgable about the birds and creatures we saw. We saw a few different types of tarantulas, snakes, various birds and scorpions amongst others. More animals than I expected going into the tour! Also did a morning tour with Donald in the monteverde cloud forest which was equally great.

Really good night tour close to Monteverde - My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this tour. There was a very relaxt start to get the know eachother while drinking a coffee or tea in the middle of 3 different type of regions during a spectacular sunset. We had the luck that we were with a smaller group, so it was easy to raise all type of questions to our guide Donald who was able to answer all of them. During the night tour we had the luck to see 2 types of vipers, 2 types of tarantula's, 2 types of frogs (1 of these only exists in Costa Rica), some special birds that were sleeping, a special type of lizzard, a scorpion and some other special things. Donald made some really nice pictures for us to make sure that we will not forget this tour.

Greatest Experience in Costa Rica! - Our Host recommended this Night Tour and we were lucky to get a private Tour spontaneously the same Night. Donald answered (via WhatsApp) after less than 2 minutes! Marita welcomed us warmly. Donald gave us a brief and very interesting overview about the three different forests that exist in Monteverde before we hiked up a little hill to have great local coffee & delicious biscuits while we watched the sun go down. Best view and sundowner we had in Costa Rica! Then we walked through the forest while Donald was searching for animals waving around his flashlight. It was incredible how quickly he saw all these hidden (often sleeping) animals. We still don’t know how he could see a “green northern emirald toucan” sleeping up in a green tree ;) He wanted to show us a “red eyed frog”, but there was none by the water. Donald didn’t give up and in the end he found one and we could see his nice red eyes. His knowledge about the nature is unique and he answered all our questions. You can feel his passion for what he is doing! Besides his studies for 7 years and being a professor, he is an expert in tarantulas! We also saw: - a Guanacaste Walking Stick (male and female) - a Costa Rican orange-kneed Tarantula - a Side-striped Palm Pit Viper - a Lesser Violetear - a Headlight Click Beetle - a Brown Jay Thanks so much for this great experience! Perfect night hike after sunset - Wonderful night walk starting with a sunset at a perfect place. Directly after the sunset the tour starts with a hike in the nearby forest. With the experienced guides you will find sleeping birds (e.g. Tucan), snakes (maybe) - we saw two, a tarantula and also a scorpion. A trip I will not miss. Thanks for these memories.

Pura vida night walk 💯💯💯 - Donald is wonderful as a guide and from the reception the level of confidence you feel is another level. At Woodpecker Reserve we saw birds, snakes, tarantulas, red-eyed frogs and more. Shortly before finishing the tour of the reserve we had tea with cookies. In fact it was an excellent experience, my wife and all of us were fascinated.

A great park, must see. Definitely an Underdog in the region. - Super nice tour, saw great things. Donald is very knowledgeable, and took time to show us everything the park had to offer. Great value, this is an underdog in a region crowded with tourists. If you are looking for a not so crowded park, this is it! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
