  • XV37+2M Spittal of Glenmuick - Discover the beauty of Lochnagar with our team of local experts!

Be expertly guided to the summit of the famous Lochnagar, the north-east’s most spectacular mountain. Situated on the Balmoral Estate, the area has many Royal connections and stories, including the “Widow’s Lodge” on the banks of Loch Muick. With beautiful pine forests, stunning mountain views, waterfalls, and abundant nature, this walk is sure to create lasting memories of the majestic Scottish Highlands.

Walk distances of up to 19km may vary depending on the weather. An alternative, but still beautiful, lower-level walk in the area will be guided on the day if the weather is too much for the summit.

A good level of fitness will be required for this hike.

Please meet in Ballater at the main car park in the square by the public toilets at 08:30.
You will then convoy down to the Spittal of Glenmuick carpark to start the walk (approx 20 minute drive and no phone signal at carpark). Our minibus will transport the group if available.

There is a charge to park at the Spittal of Glenmuick of £5 for the day.

This walk can take anything from 6-9 hours.

First class - From start to finish was a brilliant experience. Communication from planning the trip to the actual morning of the hill climb was first class. Edd was our guide and was polite, experienced and friendly all the way up and back down Lochnagar...top guy.

Skye Cuillin Munros - Wow what a trip!! - I’m just back from the trip of a lifetime with Hillgoers on Skye in the Cuillins and one that I will never forget!! I booked this back at the start of the year and given that I have a fear of heights and exposure it’s a miracle that I managed to do this! I obviously very much wanted to but wasn’t sure if I would manage the more technical stuff but I did (thanks to Iain the guide) and I’m still buzzing!!! Iain was absolutely brilliant, couldn’t recommend him highly enough! I was quite nervous about the trip but after a call with Iain the night before to discuss everything I felt much more reassured. He seemed to have this era about him that relaxed me and took a lot of the fear out of it. He knew every foot and hand hold and talked me through the whole thing. He was very professional, knowledgeable and passionate about the mountains and I felt in very safe hands at all times! We also had alot of laughs along the way! The weather was fantastic too! Such an amazing experience with breathtaking views! Thanks Hillgoers for the best trip ever!!!

Lairig Ghru Loop - Lairig Ghru 2 day loop, very enjoyable some 36 miles split over 2 days, with minibus support to take bags to destination. Booking was easy and communication was excellent. Good drop off/pick up instructions so you were not in any doubt as to where to be and what time, and kit lists etc were very helpful. Minibus right on time for pick ups which was brilliant - especially after a rainy days walking. Garry our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and well prepared. First day a bit miserable as weather not great but second day mostly dry and the midges weren't too bad so we were all able to enjoy it and soak in the magnificent scenery. Good to have the option to quit after the first day if the weather/feet weren't up to it as mini bus available to take you home but fortunately none of us needed this. Expect to join further walks as was very impressed all round. Thank you for a brilliant couple of days.

Skilled and Personable Guides - Garry and Bill both guided me... even to summit Lochnagar in the winter! Both are skilled and personable and kept my individual skills and needs in mind when planning and replanning our adventures. I HIGHLY recommend Garry and his team for year-round trekking adventures!
