Additional Information

A unique opportunity to reconnect and reunite with your culture, roots, and heritage. You will receive a traditional African name based on the day of the week you were born, enjoy village life activities like clay pottery making, and participate in traditional cultural performances presented by the locals to welcome you into the community.

This experience is exclusively for descendants, serving as a special pilgrimage for healing. Non-descendants must be allies of the Black rights movement (spouse or Black family member participating).

We recommend bringing some cash to purchase beautiful African beads as gifts and to make a donation to support the community’s efforts.

This can be an emotional experience for both locals and visitors, as they see each other as close family and relatives (if slavery had not torn them apart). You will also get to appreciate the beauty of the countryside.

Ghana is Absolutely Remarkable! - My experience in Ghana was absolutely amazing due to Ghana Must Go Tours. Every day, they were early to pick us up from the hotel. Toufic, our guide was quite knowledgeable, kind, professional and made the trip very memorable. Toufic transformed our trip into an unforgettable adventure. His patience was remarkable, always taking the time to answer our numerous questions and making sure my friend and myself felt comfortable. Toufic took wonderful pictures to help us capture the beauty of Ghana. He also provided insightful commentary that enriched our experience. His deep understanding of Ghana's culture, history, and environment was evident and his passion for sharing it with us was truly inspiring. Our itinerary was exceptional. We were able to visit Cape Coast Castle, the ancestral river, umbrella rock, 2 beautiful waterfalls, the cocoa farm, the Shai Hills Reserve and Lake Volta. In addition, Toufic, introduced us to a beautiful village and we were able to partake in a memorable naming ceremony. Ghana Must Go Tours made the entire trip pleasant and enjoyable. Toufic went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience, tailoring the trip to meet out pace, interests and needs. Because of Toufic's exceptional punctuality, patience and profound knowledge made our trip to Ghana absolutely amazing. I highly recommend his services to anyone who is looking to explore Ghana.

My Naming Ceremony was exciting and emotional - I will treasure the entire experiences from the time Toufic collected me from my hotel, along the potholed roads, feeding the baboons along the road. The villagers were so welcoming. They let me have a go at making a clay pot which was great fun. Then there was my naming ceremony, I felt very moved and humble as I received my Ghanaian names. I felt a connection with the community. The entire trip is worth going on and can highly recommend it. Toufic is a true professional.

Torgome Homecoming - The experience was everything we hoped it would be and more. The people of Torgome were so welcoming and truly made us feel as though we had returned home. The naming ceremony was beautiful and we shall carry our memories always. Our guide Amara who collected us promptly from our hotel and took us to the most picturesque destination for lunch was also fantastic, friendly and very informative. We couldn't fault the day!

Touching experience - This was an experience I would never forget. Our tour guide Toufic was very professional and we felt comfortable and safe in his presence. He was knowledgeable, courteous and nice! The naming ceremony truly touched my husband and I. We felt so inspired and so welcomed to the village. We loved the dancing and the explanation that was provided for our new names. This experience was unmatched to anything else we did. It’s priceless. The truth is we almost canceled this tour because it was so expensive. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE THE BEST MONEY SPENT ON OUR TRIP! It worth the price! Tourfic even took us to a beautiful lunch on the lake! We will remember this forever.

Amazing Experience w/ Ghanamustgitours - From start to finish, booking this tour with Toufic was amazing and I left Ghana feeling like I have a new brother. 100% responsive and communicative before and after travels to Ghana. Showed up in time. Knowledgeable and personable in personality. The experience, with the lunch, was greater in value than what we paid. He explained things along the way, didn’t get annoyed with our many questions, and helped us feel safe and welcomed. I highly recommend booking this tour with Toufic and Ghanamustgotours. I really wouldn’t book with anyone else in the future.

An incredible experience - I knew I wanted to do this experience before I stepped foot in Ghana and I’m sooo glad I did. As a first-generation American to Haitian-born parents, Togorme reminded me so much of my parent’s homeland. The people were welcoming and they felt so familiar. It truly felt as if we were family. The rituals were similar to those we see in Haiti. It felt nostalgic to be there and our local names truly resonated with who we were which was amazing as we had never been there before. The lunch that was provided was absolutely amazing. Our overall tour experience was made even more enjoyable thanks to our gracious and hospitable host, Toufic. His knowledge in so many areas and his love for meeting people was evident in the conversations held throughout the entire day. There was never a dull moment. He went above and beyond to show us Baboons when asked about them and he also took so many pictures for us. Overall, a truly welcoming and inspiring experience. The only constructive criticism I have would be to provide us access to bottled water sooner. It was a couple hours before we were able to hydrate in the Ghanaian heat. However, this was still a 5-star experience that I recommend to anyone who is a part of the African Diaspora.

Welcome Home! - This tour was everything that I could’ve asked for during my first trip to Ghana and Africa! We were welcomed with traditional dancing and drumming by our new village family and individually given our traditional birth and local names along with its significance and a small gift. We hugged and danced with our village family afterwards. It was such a moving and authentic experience. I truly felt welcomed back “home” to the Motherland. Also Amara was our tour guide, and he was very knowledgeable and professional. He made sure that we were comfortable and all of our questions were answered. We also met his business partner, Toufic, on the tour and had a delicious lunch at a lovely resort with beautiful views of Lake Volta. I highly recommend this tour and both Amara and Toufic of Ghana Must Go Tours!

You better book fast! - This was our first outing in the country and Toufic did everything to make sure this experience was memorable. The professionalism was consistent as well as safe driving there and back. He was there during the ceremony which was a bit helpful in regards to translating and giving understandings to traditions. I would recommend this to everyone returning home. Wish I could have learned how to continue to give to the village throughout the year. The next stop was lunch and the spot was sumply amazing on the water! Sad bc I couldn’t upload my photos but trust it was special.
