A magical experience in the most beautiful region of Ghana! - It only gets BETTER the more you travel with Nana! This was my second time traveling with him. Given the incredible experience I had with him and a friend at Elmina's Bakatue Festival, I decided to contact him for a 4-day hiking and camping trip in the Volta and Eastern Regions of Ghana. And even invited a friend along who hadn't previously met Nana. Well, where to start? It is hard to capture the incredible 4 days we all had together and what we experienced. For starters, Nana's kindness and way of going above and beyond for the trip was visible from the beginning. The trip started as an idea my friend Nick and I had, and Nana was doing everything to bring it to life. He provided the tents and sleeping bags, the pots and pans for cooking, he even got some board games for the evenings at the camping site! It was incredible. Now to the best part: the actual trip. The road trip was not only SO much fun, but it truly felt like I was traveling with family. Nana's ability to have conversations, and make you feel comfortable leads to feeling so at ease and able to truly be present enough to enjoy the actual experience you are about to have. He really makes you feel like everything will work out, he has incredible knowledge of the routes and knows pretty much everyone in these areas (I call him the Mayor of Ghana). A noticeable aspect of the trip is that every single person we encountered was happy to see Nana. Further emphasizing that he not only crafts these incredible experiences for others, but that also does it in a way that helps support other local guides, businesses, and people in Ghana, which I think is a beautiful thing and says a lot about Nana's heart. We hiked every day and experienced unforgettable views, and incredible adventures from the monkeys in the sanctuary, the Wli Walls, and the other 3 hikes we did around this trip. Nana truly fit in everything we wanted to do and did not disappoint. Towards the end, we spent a night in the Eastern Region and did kayaking as well as a speedboat tour. Both are incredibly worth it! (If you want to see more images and experiences about it head to Nana's Instagram!). Nana's ability to be flexible while maintaining professionalism, providing us with the adventures we were seeking and welcoming us with open arms makes for such an unforgettable time. I think this might've been the best trip of my life. And I don't say this lightly. I'm just incredibly thankful I got to see Nana again and travel together to explore such a gorgeous region (Oh yeah please look up pictures this region is BEAUTIFUL) . Don't overthink booking this trip with Nana - it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. The fact that I came back for a second trip with him should be testimony enough of why you should go on your first! THANK YOU NANA <3

An absolutely magical experience! - As a traveller that usually prefers to have everything in his control, I was a little skeptical of the tour in the beginning to be honest. But I decided to trust my friend who had booked a tour with Nana before and was very happy with it. Right before the trip, communication was very smooth and Nana designed the itinerary completely in line with our wishes and preferences. It doesn’t have to be the itinerary that is given here at TripAdvisor - for example, the three of us did a four-day hiking/camping trip to the Volta/Eastern Region. The trip itself, I don’t know how to put into words. Nana is the best travel guide I’ve had so far in my life - not limited to Ghana - such an easy-going, generous and fun person. Right from the beginning, it felt like we’ve known each other for ages, not a sign of restraint that I usually like to maintain. We started off with a hike to the Wli Waterfalls where we already had the best time. After a fun night including cooking with a camp stove, we started the next day with two hikes: to an incredible viewpoint at first, to Mount Afadjato in the afternoon. The following two days we went for another hike, a speed boat trip as well as a kayak trip on the Volta Lake. The time in between (driving, eating, resting, whatever) that you wouldn’t consider special at all deserves extra credit. I’ve never had so much fun for example during drives - be ready for some great music and dancing! Nana’s positive attitude during this whole trip was truly infectious!! Back to my concerns from the beginning: they were completely unwarranted. On our own, without a guide like Nana who knows basically every activity, every person and every hidden gem in this region, we wouldn’t have been able to get this unique experience. Thank you for everything Nana, we‘ll surely be back for another tour!! 🙏🏻

Magical experience - I had the absolute best experience! They customized the trip to my wants and needs. As a female solo traveler I couldn't have been more safe with these two. Sammy's the best driver in Ghana and Nana is the most knowledgeable, well known, and highly revered everywhere we went. I can't wait to start planning an all girls trip with them. I hope y'all are ready! Thanks again guys and I'll see y'all again real soon!

Beautiful Volta - I had a lovely time with the Freelancenana team. They adjusted the tour to my own preferences and ideas and took great care of me throughout the entire time. These are great and well-trained people with excellent knowledge about Ghana, a positive life attitude and a concern for sustainability and the community. They will try to make the trip as much fun as possible and a special experience for everyone. The Volta Region with its mountains and waterfalls is gorgeous. I can highly recommend this trip.

Interesting and insightful - Nana is just a bloody remarkable person, with great knowledge about his country and sorroundings. He is very affable, funny, and interesting, I like his understanding abilities, the ability to relate and share his cultural experiences. In a nutshell the trip was totally amazing, outstanding and exciting. Nana is such a gifted and an incredible guide. The trip was truly a lifetime experience for me and my friends from the diapora. Not only did I see sights about which I had dreamed my whole life, I got to experience everything close up and personal. The hikes were glorious and wonderfully challenging, the waterfal was magnificent. I don't have enough good things to say about this tour. Well organized, educational and most of all, fun! We don't usually take tours, but this one made us feel like we hit the jackpot. Excellent!”

Great escape from Accra in the more Natural Volta Region - Being inspired by the Japanese tradition of Tokyo Inhabitants to climb Mount Fuji on Ne Year's day. I venture myself to take part in escaping busy and busty Accra for a few days and take a road trip to the Volta region organize by @Freeloance Nana crew! Nana has been personally very welcoming checking on me like a friend prior to the trip and all through it! I do appreciate his soulful and passionate spirit. The travel guide I had Issac made his bet to accommodate my rhythm when we were hiking the Mont Afodjato and had several breaks to rest. Volta region was a sincere Breezer of fresh air and I would have loved to stay overnight by the Volta region for longer and cruise the lake. Again the team is very friendly and will provide you great cultural insight onto Ghanaian culture and history. I would definitely recommend taking one of their tours or asking for a custom one if possible.

good tour but not great - This is what I liked: I went on the tour solo with guide Thompson and driver Jeff. They were both perfectly nice and asked often whether im ok. The driving was good and safe, they delt well with the numerous security check points. Nana seems like a great guy, I got the impression that he’s very professional, friendly and customer oriented. It was a good experience with a few exciting moments and I got some great pictures. The Wli Waterfalls was absolutely stunning and worth visiting. Climbing the Afadjato Mountain was epic and the view from the top extremely rewarding. The guide for the mountain hike was fantastic. Things that can be improved: I had very high expectations from all the great reviews and I’m usually very careful when selecting tours. There were still quite a lot of things that disappointed me in this tour: - Monkey sanctuary: There were just two locations where the monkeys came up to us and I fed them bananas. The whole thing lasted not even 15 minutes. I didn't really learn much about the Monkeys. Maybe it was just our guide or the fact that it had been raining. There was no history of the scanctuary or tour, we didn't walk through the reserve, nothing. Very bad and anticlimactic given that it took hours to drive to that place. - The driving was ok, but eventually got really tedious and boring because unlike other tours I did in Africa, there was not much engaging storytelling during the drive or interesting information about the areas we were driving through. (You spend a lot of time time in the car on this tour, maybe 10-12 hours). And unfortunately it was the same for the rest of the tour. There was some small talk in the beginning. But it didn’t make me feel like they had abundant knowledge about the places and attractions we saw or a genuine passion to share as much as possible of their culture. I know being a tour guide is hard, you need a lot of people skills, knowledge and a lot of energy. But that’s what I expected based on the reviews. - Instead, during most of the tour, the driver and guide were talking to each other in their own language - and not just a few times. That’s just incredibly rude and made me feel like I was just along for the ride or not even there. In addition, they spent so much time on their phones, on zoom meeting or doing their own stuff. Made me feel like they had better things to do than doing an actual private tour. I never experienced something like this before on a tour in that price range. - I was ready at 6:30am to be picked up but I was waiting for more than half an hour until they finally arrived. Not the end of the world but many small things like this give you a sense of the customer not coming first. - The accomodation we stayed at was ok, the aircon was not working, ants, no electricity after it started raining, no free wifi (i had vodafon and no reception or mobile data in the volta region, so be prepared for that) Conclusion: The tour was ok, but very far from an immersive once in a lifetime experience. I won’t recommend this particular tour to my colleagues. I expect a lot more for a premium price of 400 USD. You can easily replicate most of this experience by yourself by getting your own driver and visiting the places by yourself for a much cheaper price, because they have their own guides there anyway. I hope they can improve this tour in the future because I’m sure Freelance Nanatravels have a higher standard than this. Next time I’m in Ghana I would consider to book a tour with Nana himself, you just feel he has the personality and energy to be an outstanding tour guide.
