Highlights
  • Meyazia 27 Square Monument - Myazia 27 Square Monument, also known as Dillachin (Victory Monument), is a historic site featuring a Lion of Judah and a series of relief figures and monumental panels that celebrate Ethiopia’s liberation.
  • National Museum of Ethiopia - Begin your Addis Ababa city tour at the National Museum of Ethiopia, renowned for its diverse and high-quality exhibits. Among the archaeological displays is the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh, meaning ‘thou art wonderful’ in the local language), an Australopithecus Afarensis hominid woman. Lucy’s 1974 discovery revolutionized our understanding of human ancestry, showing that our forebears walked the earth 2.5 million years earlier than previously thought. The museum also houses numerous artifacts from the pre-Axumite civilization.

Please note that the National Museum is closed on Mondays.

  • Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square - Located near Addis Ababa University and the Lion Zoo, Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square Monument holds significant historical importance.
  • Chiromeda Market - Before heading up to Mount Entoto, we will stop by Chiromeda Market, which offers a variety of traditional clothing such as dresses, shawls, scarves, bed covers, napkins, and men’s shirts, all locally handmade.

Stopping here is optional.

  • Mount Entoto - We will drive uphill to Entoto, once the permanent camp of Emperor Menelik II. As we ascend, you’ll notice a significant drop in altitude and the air filled with the scent of eucalyptus trees that blanket the area. From the summit, enjoy a panoramic view of the capital and surrounding countryside. Please note that the entrance fee to Entoto Park is not included; if you wish to enter, the cost is 20 USD per person.
  • Ethnological Museum - Our tour continues with a visit to the Ethnological Museum, located within the Addis Ababa University campus. Unlike the National Museum, this museum offers an equally fascinating array of artifacts and everyday objects representing Ethiopia’s various ethnic groups.
  • Mercato Market - After lunch, the city tour of Addis Ababa continues with a visit to Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa, where almost every imaginable commodity is available.
  • Itegue Taitu Hotel | Piazza - Enjoy lunch at the oldest hotel in Ethiopia, established in 1898 E.C. The Taitu Hotel offers a variety of options, including a well-known vegan buffet, as well as menu items.

Clients can suggest an alternative lunch venue.

  • St. George’s Cathedral - Our visit continues with St. George’s Cathedral, one of the oldest and most colorful churches in Addis Ababa.
  • Tiglachin Memorial - The Tiglachin Memorial honors Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers who fought in the Ogaden War. It was constructed under Mengistu Haile Mariam on Churchill Avenue in Addis Ababa.

Last Minute Tour Turns Layover into Unforgettable Day! - What turned from an awful experience with Ethiopian Airlines, ended up being one of the best experiences I have had to date. After missing my connection and having an overnight layover in Addis, I decided to find a tour to see some of the city. Desale and team where absolutely amazing, I booked this tour super last minute and they were still able to accommodate me. They picked me up from my hotel right on time and took me all around the city to museums and monuments to markets and coffee houses. I would not have been able to see nearly as much if I tried this on my own. Desale was so knowledgeable and really wanted to make sure I was having a good time and catered the day to my interests. I can not say enough good things, if you find yourself with a free day in Addis please book this tour and see more of this uniquely wonderful city.

Tour of Addis Ababa - Luel and his driver greeted us in a clean mini bus and plenty of water for the tour ahead. Luel was knowledgeable and his English clear to understand. They were patient with our ageing father wherever we visited or whatever we did. The traditional dishes at the Addis Ababa restaurant were delicious. We had a great day out. Thank you Luel!
