Great Guide! Great Experience! Thank you Reynir! - Had Reynir for Northern Lights out of Akureyri. We were worried about our chances as all the apps gave us less than 20% chance of seeing anything and it appeared very cloudy. Reynir showed up and said he felt good about it and liked our chances. He had done his own research. He took us out of the city where we saw more stars than in our lifetimes and there was the glow of the start of activity. After 30 mins or so, and after sharing hot chocolate and his keeping us warm in his vehicle, we began to see a spectacular show, including the rolling waves you see in videos. An absolutely amazing experience brought about Reynir’s knowledge and friendliness.

Our tour guide Runar was brilliant he was knowledgeable and very attentive he made the whole evening so wonderful. He moved from area to area to get the best results he even stayed over time to produce the results. Highly recommended Star Travel and Runar Freyr Juliusson as your guide top guy. Many thanks again. 😊

The next best thing to actually seeing the lights! - Though we didn't actually see the Northern Lights due to a bright moon and probably other factors, we learned a lot about them and a lot about Iceland from a very engaging native guide. He gave us a lot of insight into local culture. Prompt pickup and dropoff, comfortable ride.

Felt like a scam. - The driver was late even though the mini bus was there ready and another company representative was present to check everyone in. The man checking us in was awkwardly killing time saying "this is usual in Iceland" as if it's ok to leave 15 people standing outside waiting for almost 20 minutes. There was barely any commentary or explanation of what the Northern Lights are or how the phenomenon occurs. We were told that chances were promising to see the lights and that we had a "level 4" night — whatever that means. We were driven only 15 minutes to a large field with several other mini buses where we parked. We were told that our smartphone cameras detect green light and to use them to try to find the lights... so everyone went out and held their phones up... We all looked up to the skies and waited. And waited. Many returned to the bus warm up. After THREE long, dismal, awkward hours, we returned to where we were picked up. The description of the tour implied we would "chase the lights" —not be in a solitary location the entire time — and that the tour would be educational and informative. It was not. It felt like a scam to drive tourists in a nice mini bus only 15 minutes and park to rake in cash. Very disappointing and a complete waste of time entirely.
