Duration: 8 hours

Highlights
  • Fort Qaitbey - Your Private Guide & Driver will pick you up in your Private Van and take you to Fort Qaitbay. This fortress, built by Sultan Qaitbey in the 14th century to defend Alexandria from the Ottoman Empire, stands on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria. Although the Ottomans captured Egypt in 1512, the fortress remains, strategically positioned on a narrow strip of land extending into Alexandria’s harbor from the corniche.

  • Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - The catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are the largest Roman Cemetery. Here, you can find well-preserved artifacts from various eras, including ancient Egyptian and Roman tomb inscriptions. Discovered in 1900 due to a donkey accident, these catacombs feature carved tombs and burial chambers in a cave.

  • Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral - Visit the oldest church in Africa. During your drive, you’ll see the old downtown area with its historical architecture, featuring baroque designs and Italian and French style properties.

  • Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi - Visit the largest mosque in the city, the Abu al-Abbas Mosque, and see the unique sight outside: an old funfair where children play on antique rides and enjoy candy floss.

  • Bibliotheca Alexandrina - Visit the open court to see statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, as well as the museums of the Library. This complex is a major cultural venue in Egypt, hosting international performers and housing several impressive museums, including the President Sadat Museum and the Impressions of Alexandria Museum. Note: Bibliotheca is closed on Fridays.

  • Stanley Bridge - View Stanley Bridge, which offers a scenic overlook of the sea.

  • Montazah Gardens - Explore the Montazah Gardens, see the beautiful Montaza Palace, the royal gardens of King Farouk, and walk on the famous Montaza bridge. You’ll also see the Tea Palace island and the royal beaches of the queens. Afterward, you’ll be dropped off at your designated location.

  • Pompey’s Pillar - This Roman triumphal column in Alexandria is the largest of its kind outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. It is the only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt. You’ll pass by Pompey’s Pillar and can take photos from outside.

  • Alexandria Unknown Naval Soldier Memorial - Located in the Mansheya area, this memorial was built by the Italian community in Alexandria to honor Khedive Ismail for his role in Egypt’s development and urban renaissance between 1863 and 1879. It also pays tribute to Egypt for hosting the last king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel III, after his abdication. The design is similar to the Unknown Soldier memorial in Venice Square, Rome.

Great tour, excellent guide, exciting city! - We arrived into Alexandria as part of a cruise ship tour. We decided to do our own thing rather than a cruise line excursion and went with Mirette Tours. It was excellent! Our guide, Ghada, met us at the port entrance and we were quickly visiting lots of different parts of the city. Ghada was excellent, she was really friendly, knew everything there was to know about Egyptian history and the way that it has shaped Alexandria.

Highlights of Alexandria - Our tour of Alexandria covered most of the places that were of interest to us and gave us a good feel for the city. Our guide, Wesson, was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She not only knew a great deal of information about the important sites in the city, she also seemed to know everyone and to be known by them.

Alexandria and Jan were Excellent! - From the confirmation text from Mirette to our guide, Jan to the driver, Prince, to the city itself, everything worked!!! We were promptly collected from our hotel and off we went to each destination. Jan was knowledgeable and gave us history from minute #2! He was very patience as we had a child with us. The driver was very good, no speeding or crazy driving. We saw a lot of the town and even got to walk the city streets. It was a pleasant afternoon and were hesitant. Mirette, Jan, Prince, and the people of Alexandria put us at ease and we felt welcomed. Cheers!

Perfect way to explore the fascinating city fo Alexandria. - Private tour with an excellent, knowledgeable local guide took us to all the highlights of the city and explained the significance of each place we visited. Lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean Sea was included -- good meal, although the fish was slightly overcooked.

Amazing Alexandria! - This tour was great! Our guide Mohamed showed us all the amazing sights of Alexandria, as well as taking us to some mosques, churches and areas not included on typical cruise line excursions (the real Alexandria). We were able to spend as much time as we wanted at the areas rather than being rushed from place to place. We had a delicious lunch in a very nice restaurant at a reasonable price. He even took us to some shops where he helped us get great prices on nice products. Thank you
