Highlights
  • Alexandria - At 6, 7, 8, or 9 am, we begin your tour of Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city and its capital for nearly a thousand years. Founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria has a Mediterranean atmosphere and is renowned for its Roman ruins.
  • Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Your first stop in this historic city is the catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery with three levels carved into the rock from the 1st or 2nd century.
  • Serapeum of Alexandria - The “Pompey Pillar,” Egypt’s most revered memorial column, stands as a significant historical symbol. Made from solid red granite, this colossal structure is approximately 28 meters tall with a base diameter of 2.7 meters. An inscription in Greek on the upper western side honors Emperor Diocletian for his commitment to justice and his role as Alexandria’s guardian, as well as Postumus, the Prefect of Egypt, who oversaw the monument’s construction. The Pompey Pillar is a testament to Egypt’s rich heritage and enduring legacy.
  • Qaytbay Castle - The Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria is one of the most important defensive strongholds in Egypt and along the Mediterranean coast. Built in the 15th century A.D., it was crucial to Alexandria’s fortifications. Located at the entrance of the eastern harbor on the east point of Pharos Island, it was erected on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse functioned until the Arab conquest, despite several disasters that altered its shape. Restoration began during Ahmed Ibn Tulun’s time (around 880 A.D). An earthquake in the 11th century damaged the octagonal part, leaving the bottom to serve as a watchtower with a small mosque on top. A destructive earthquake in the 14th century destroyed the building. Optional stop for lunch at the fish market.
  • Bibliotheca Alexandria - The Library of Alexandria was one of the ancient world’s most famous and influential libraries. Built in the third century BC by Ptolemy I Soter, it housed a vast collection of books and manuscripts on philosophy, mathematics, science, and literature. It quickly became a center of learning and culture, influencing far beyond Alexandria. The library was said to contain up to 500,000 scrolls and was home to famous scholars like Euclid and Eratosthenes.
  • Cairo - Then transfer back to Cairo with our private car and guide.

Follow me - A whole day of excitement as soon as you leave your hotel door! Ehab was a great guide that knew exactly how to make the most of an intense day. The road to Alexandria from Cairo is a beautiful drive through desert landscapes, and every site in Alexandria is breathtaking. So many historical and cultural phases in one single city. Highly recommended tour, especially with Ehab and Teto!

Punctual, Knowledgeable and Professional - Our English-speaking driver Youssef was punctual. His vehicle was clean and the A/C worked well. He was patient and didn't rush us. Enroute from Cairo to Alexandria, he imparted information about the landmarks we were viewing. In Alexandria, our tour guide was Karam. He was very knowledgeable and was able to intelligently answer all my questions, which leads me to believe he was not just parroting a script. We visited the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, the Library of Alexandria, and the Citadel of Qaitbay. All were impressive sights with interesting histories. After our ~3-hour tour, we had lunch at the Fish Market, a seaside restaurant, not a fish market. We enjoyed the view of the Bay of Alexandria and the Citadel of Qaitbay through the large windows surrounding the restaurant. We also appreciated the A/C in the height of summer in Egypt. All told, I highly recommend this tour. Our driver and guide did a great job. It was a pleasant day trip to Alexandria.

French guy in Alexandria ! - My day trip to Alexandria with my guide Bisho was super nice. I recommend. To see Alexandria was a good plus of my visit in Egypt. It makes you see something different than the Cairo and the pyramids. I could cross the country and see some nice landscape. Besides the roads are high quality. My guide Bisho was a great man during all the trip. His english was perfect for me (and he speaks Japanese too !!). I loved it, and I recommend.

Alexandria Day Tour - First the good (but do read to the end): We visited all the sites as per the itinerary and the guide was very polite and knowledgeable. We were not rushed; they were on time; and WhatsApp communication was great. This is why I gave 4 stars, but… We paid for a private tour (which this was supposed to be), but the night before we were told that another couple would like to join us if we agreed to. They have told that same thing to the other couple! We did agree to it, so we cannot blame the company for that, but also, they did take advantage of us and made double the profit for the same work. We were not offered any compensation for this; and on top of that we were scammed with the seafood lunch - 20USD/person cash only - you det 3 small, uncleaned shrimp; 3 rings fried calamary; and a small whole fish + rice. Extremely overpriced “tourist menu” they call it! Go with the restaurant a la cart menu! Advise: If it’s your first time in Egypt: 1st lower your expectations 50% and 2nd be aware that everyone is trying to make as much money off you as possible, at all times. Egyptians are very charming and appear to have your best interest at heart, but do not be fooled! Once you are aware of the above, you can enjoy your experiences and have a fantastic vacation.
