Highlights
  • Alexandria - At 6, 7, 8, or 9 am, we begin your tour of Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city and its capital for nearly a thousand years. Founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria has a Mediterranean atmosphere and is renowned for its Roman ruins.
  • Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Your first stop in this historic city is the catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery with three levels carved into the rock from the 1st or 2nd century.
  • Serapeum of Alexandria - The “Pompey Pillar,” Egypt’s most esteemed memorial column, stands as a significant historical symbol. Made from solid red granite, this towering structure is approximately 28 meters high with a base diameter of 2.7 meters. An inscription in Greek on the upper western side honors Emperor Diocletian for his dedication to justice and his role as Alexandria’s protector. It also recognizes Postumus, the Prefect of Egypt, who supervised the monument’s construction. The Pompey Pillar is a testament to Egypt’s rich heritage and enduring legacy.
  • Bibliotheca Alexandria - The Library of Alexandria, built in the third century BC by Ptolemy I Soter, was one of the ancient world’s most famous and influential libraries. Located in Alexandria, it housed a vast collection of books and manuscripts on philosophy, mathematics, science, and literature, becoming a center of learning and culture. The library’s collection, said to contain up to 500,000 scrolls, was one of the largest in the ancient world and home to renowned scholars like Euclid and Eratosthenes.
  • Qaytbay Castle - The Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria is one of Egypt’s most important defensive strongholds along the Mediterranean coast. Built in the 15th century AD, it was crucial to Alexandria’s fortifications. Located at the entrance of the eastern harbor on Pharos Island, it was erected on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse functioned until the Arab conquest, despite several disasters and changes in shape. Restoration began around 880 AD under Ahmed Ibn Tulun. An earthquake in the 11th century damaged the octagonal part, leaving the bottom to serve as a watchtower with a small mosque on top. A destructive earthquake in the 14th century ultimately destroyed the building. An optional stop for lunch at the fish market is available.
  • Cairo - Finally, we transfer back to Cairo with our private car and guide.

Alexandria Day Tour. Do it! - We had a great day exploring Alexandria and saw a huge amount considering it was a one day tour. If we wanted to stay longer somewhere, they were flexible with the change. Communication with the tour company was good before meeting, so I was confident for the day.

Best Alexandria Trip - Ehab & Hussinr we're the best tour guide and driver we could've asked for. They were attentive to our needs, patient, and very knowledgeable in all things Alexandria and Egypt history in general. Ehab even accommodated taking us to St Marks Church, which was not on the itinerary! If you are looking for a guide to visit Alexandria, this is the ONLY way to go.

10/10 Alexandria review - What can I say once again Hesham and his crew come through again. Eslam and Ehab accompanied us throughout the journey. Ehab is quick and concise explaining everything and always makes sure we enjoy our time. Eslam is a master driver in the hectic Egyptian streets 10/10 recommend them for any tour.

Amazing Alexandria tour - Great experience in Alexandria. I was driven from Cairo to Alexandria where I was taken to the most amazing spots in town. Rania, my tour guide was very knowledgeable, answered my questions and was most helpful because she obliged me by helping me buy a luggage for all of the amazing stuff I’ve bought in Egypt. Thanks for everything.

Amazing Trip to Alexandria - We had a great day trip to Alexandria from Cairo. Hesham booked the trip for us over phone and arranged everything for us on short notice. Ahmed was our guide, he was very knowledgeable and helped us understand the history and also answered all our questions. We covered all the major attractions including Catacombs, Citadel, Roman Theatre, Pompey's Pillar, and the library. We had kids and elderly parents in our group, and both the driver and the guide accommodated well for our requests to make quick stops along the long drive (~3hrs each way). It was our first day in Egypt after arriving from the US and the guide and driver personalized the itinerary to suit our needs as we were slow and jetlagged :) Ahmed also took few good pictures of us and stopped us a cute little tiny restaurant that had the best falafel pitas. The driver picked us up promptly in the morning, the drive was very smooth, the van had good AC and was very comfortable for our group. We highly recommend Hesham Tours. They made our first-ever day in Egypt memorable.

Alexandria is a must see - We had a great day visiting the beautiful Alexandria with our guide Ehab and driver Tamer. They both are very personable and friendly - eager to make the experience exactly what we wanted. Ehab knows so much Egyptian history and shared many details with us. He also knows the best spots for photos and made sure we got them all. Tamer navigated the heavy traffic like a pro and we felt safe for the entire long drive. Thank you to them both for a lovely day!

Alexandria from Cairo - I saw all the highlights Alexandria had to offer. It was quite busy because Ramadan had just finished - also the library was closed. However, my guide was great and the catacombs were particularly fascinating.
