Highlights
  • Anadolu Medeniyetleri Muzesi - This museum showcases fascinating artifacts from the Catal Huyuk site, often considered the world’s first known human settlement, and focuses on the early invaders of Anatolia. Notable exhibits include a collection of tablets, whose translations highlight the enduring nature of human concerns throughout history.
  • Ankara Castle - Known as the symbol of Ankara, the Citadel offers a panoramic view of the city. Constructed by the Hittites or the Phrygians, it is the city’s oldest section, with residents living in a manner largely unchanged for 600 years. The area has been inhabited since before 2000 BC.
  • Roman Baths - Following renovations from 1997 to 2001, the Roman Bath ruins in Ankara, covering approximately 65,000 m2, have been transformed into an open-air museum. The site features around a thousand stone artifacts, categorized into architectural elements, tablets, and burial steles. The southern wing of the Palaestra displays tomb steles from the Roman and Byzantine periods, while the northern wing showcases blocks with inscriptions, pedestals, and water pipes. The eastern wing contains an altar and other architectural pieces, and the central section features sarcophagi and lion sculptures.

If the weather is unsuitable for the tour, the “First Parliament Building” can be visited instead.

  • Anitkabir - This mausoleum is the eternal resting place of Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, a revolutionary, a courageous soldier, a remarkable leader, and a global icon. Completed in 1953, it overlooks Ankara and became the site of Ataturk’s burial in November of that year. Numerous Turkish artists have contributed statues, reliefs, and other decorations to the mausoleum.
