Highlights
  • Amboise - Amboise owes its reputation to its royal castle, the vast 15th-century residence of Charles VIII, which houses the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci, royal apartments, gardens and underground corridors. Just outside the town, the Château du Clos Lucé is the former residence of Leonardo da Vinci, where he lived until his death in 1519.
  • Chenonceaux - Chenonceau Castle is a remarkable example of late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture. Its unique design with its arches spanning the Cher River makes it a visually impressive site. It is often called the “Château des Dames” because of the important role played by women in its history, particularly Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici.
  • Montrichard - Also known as Château de Montfort, Château de Montrichard is a medieval castle located on the banks of the Cher. It offers panoramic views of the city and the river.
  • Cheverny - The Château de Cheverny is one of the pearls of the Loire Valley. It is renowned for its splendid classical 17th-century architecture, period furniture and well-kept gardens. The castle has still been inhabited by the same family for more than six centuries.
It is associated with Tintin, the famous comic book character. A permanent exhibition presents objects and decorations linked to Tintin.
  • Chambord - The Château de Chambord is one of the architectural marvels of the Renaissance. Built in the 16th century during the reign of François I, it is distinguished by its exceptional architecture, marked by towers, fireplaces, and a remarkable double revolution staircase.
  • Blois - The Royal Castle of Blois is an emblematic monument of the city. It offers a unique illustration of French architecture through the centuries, with parts built in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the 17th and the 18th centuries.
  • Chaumont-sur-Loire - The Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire is one of the city’s main attractions. Built in the 15th century, the castle offers panoramic views of the Loire Valley.
