Additional Information

The Pura Lempuyang (otherwise known as Pura Luhur Lempuyang Bali) or ‘The Temple of Thousand Steps’, can be found perched on top of Belibis Hill (Mount Lempuyang), which is situated 1,058 meters above sea level, to the northeast of Mount Agung, in the District of Abang, Karangasem County.

The temple’s creation date remains unknown. Legend tells us that when the earth was a mere 70 years old, the island of Bali was prone to daily earthquakes due to its instability. The god Pacupati, dweller of Mount Sumeru, witnessing this unrest, tasked his three children with the duty of stabilizing Bali. In response, Hyang Gni Jaya, Hyang Putra Jaya, and Dewi Danu were dispatched to Bali in order to settle in three separate locations; Dewi Danu was sent to Mount Batur, Hyang Putra Jaya to Mount Agung, and Hyang Gni Jaya to the Lempuyang Luhur Temple.

A very satisfying trip. - Wayan was just amazing. He stayed with us throughout the trip and guided us through all the spots. He was patient with us and also suggested some good places on the way. Thank you Wayan. It wouldn't have been easy and seamless without you.

Worthy experience with a lot of photos and history. - Our driver Adi was very helpfull during our trip. He came earlier and waited us at lobby and we begun out trip with a nice conversation. We visited Gate of Heaven first to pick up line number for the photo and left to visit other places until it was our time for the photo, est time 3 hours wait line. The water palace is an amazing place also for photos and some history behind it as the driver explained. The village is very good old and well preserved but became more market place for tourists, but still worth the visit. Recommended for all!

A great Adventure to East Bali area - We had a really great day out exploring the Eastern Bali area, from the ancient village to the beautiful water gardens and then the temple up on the mountain. Our driver Gunawan was really good and looked after us very well, stopping for us when we need and answering all of our questions about the local culture. It was a long day and if you are travelling from past Canggu area, the traffic is really slow. If you want a photo at top of the temple you need to get there early as you could be waiting for hours, as the queue is very long. Overall I would highly recommend this trip.

Can’t wait get more of Bali - We had an amazing anniversary experience in Bali. The tour was flexible, and not rushed which allowed us to feel the Balinese culture. Our guide, Wayan Reddog is very articulate and knowledgable on the places we visited. Can’t wait to see more of Bali.

A great tour but personally wouldn’t queue 5 hours for the famous photo at Lempuyang - A unique tour and opportunity to explore some of hidden Bali. Tirta Gangga was our favourite stop and our driver Ketut gave us a very detailed explanation and history behind Tirta Gangga. The tour is a long day (and outside in the heat) - keep this in mind if you’re willing to be up this early (and face the 3-5 hour queue at Lempuyang Temple for the photo). We attempted to wait for the photo and realised it’d be a 5 hour wait. Lempuyang almost felt spoiled for me as it was a sea of tourists coming from every direction just wanting this photo. Ketut was amazing and took photos of us behind the palace which are just as nice (and only a 5min wait!) I much prefer learning about the history and what we’re seeing and it was great that Ketut could answer our questions and explain everything. Bonus: lunch was included!
