Highlights
  • Waterland - This tour takes place in the Waterland region, north from Amsterdam. Hop on and ride your bike through this gorgeous area of the typical polder landscapes and farmlands below sea level.
  • Durgerdam - Ride your bike through old fishermen villages and learn about water management and how the Dutch manage to live below sea level.
  • Holysloot - We are halfway through the tour when we arrive in Holysloot, a tiny farmer’s village in the middle of the countryside. Time for a break at the love restaurant ‘het Schoolhuis’, in the former school of the village. The apple pie served here is world famous in the area and great fuel for the rest of our tour!
  • Ransdorp - You will learn about the interesting history of the 80-years war between Holland and Spain and see the tower of Ransdorp, the oldest building in the area.
  • Krijtmolen d’Admiraal - What would a countryside tour in Holland be without seeing a windmill? Indeed! At the end of our tour you will pass by this gorgeous windmill from 1792 and learn about the old mill industry of Holland.

Additional Information

We are proud to be Amsterdam’s smallest bike tour company! The number of participants per group is limited and we guarantee you to be in a group of no more than 12 people. This ensures a fun, safe, and high-quality bike tour.

Our countryside bike tour (total distance: 30 km / 18 miles) is a great break away from the city. On this leisurely bike ride, you will learn about Dutch history and our ongoing battle against the water. The beautiful landscapes lie below sea level, which you will see with your own eyes while riding your bike over the embankments that keep our feet dry.

We’ll be passing picturesque farmers’ and fishermen’s villages and see the big five of Holland on this Dutch safari. (cows, cows, cows, cows, cows) ;)
Halfway through the tour, we enjoy a relaxing break to hydrate and taste the world’s best slice of apple pie in the picturesque village of Holysloot. This is the perfect fuel to keep us going and head to our favorite windmill in the region: a monument from 1792!

Fantastic morning spent cycling in the Amsterdam countryside - My friend Julie and I had a fantastic morning on the half-day guided cycle tour. William, our tour leader, was encouraging and informative and inspired confidence. I really wasn't sure if I could cycle for 18 miles as although I cycle in the UK, it really is a max of 2-3 miles a few times a week - but I did it! I am sure the fantastic bikes helped as it was such a comfortable ride and of course, it was all on the flat. The scenery is incredible, the bike paths are everywhere and it is very quiet compared with Amsterdam city centre. There is a stop half-way for coffee and cake (bring cash or card) and then we cycled back a different route which was nice. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone - I am almost 60 and found it pretty easy. It was a great group of people too, so friendly - so much so, that Julie and I went for a drink with one of the couples afterwards!

Biking the countryside with Anne! - Biking the countryside with Anne was the best part of our Amsterdam trip! Anne was knowledgeable, kind, and fun. We learned a lot about the history of the Netherlands and how this country came to be.

Amazing family bike ride - We went on the countryside ride with our 8 year old son. My husband and son are very confident riders whereas I’m a bit more wobbly! We all had an amazing time, it was definitely the highlight of our holiday. The ride was at a good pace, it felt safe, the paths were lovely and quiet. The scenery was beautiful. The guide, Pierce was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable and set the pace of the ride perfectly. We learnt a lot about Dutch culture and the local area, it was very interesting. Thank you for an amazing day. James said ‘it was the best day ever!’

Cycling the Countryside Just Outside Amsterdam - Peter was a fantastic guide! Not only did he lead us to the green, quiet countryside just outside Amsterdam, he provided lots of interesting narrative on Amsterdam, the surrounding areas, and their history. He even led us to the top of a dike, and we stopped for delicious apple pie 🥧. A lot of the tour was on dedicated bike trails. I highly recommend Pieter and We Bike Amsterdam!

A fun day out - Amazing scenery, delicious apple pie, and our tour guide was great - friendly and knowledgeable. If you bike a lot, keep in mind that this ride goes at a very easy pace. It’s not a race. I enjoyed it, and you will too unless you are hoping for a workout.

Great tour to do with family/kids- easy ride! - This bike trip was the highlight of our time in Amsterdam. Bike tours always are the best tours, so no surprise this was true in Amsterdam! This tour gave us a bit of city on the way out to the country side and then the countryside was beautiful. The whole trip was nice and relaxed. In fact - it was the most relaxing way to see Amsterdam with our 3 and 5 year old (the rest of our time there was pretty stressful!) There was a playground when we stopped for pie, which was perfect.

Relaxing countryside ride - This was a wonderful bike tour. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a short outlet away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You’ll pass through some very charming villages and spend about an hour biking through farmland. I went in May so there were a number of birds to see which was exciting. Dutch weather is fickle, but if you are looking for something to do outside in the sunshine, this is the perfect activity!
