Additional Information

Embark on a journey through Amsterdam’s sobering World War II history. Once a refuge for many Jewish individuals in Europe, including the Frank family, Amsterdam holds stories of bravery and melancholy. The devastating demise of 74% of its Jewish population during the Holocaust paints a striking difference compared to other western European nations. Explore with us the causes behind this contradiction, while we delve into the agonizing experiences of Anne Frank, her family, and the Jewish citizens of Amsterdam. We aim to reflect upon pivotal events such as the February Strike and the Winter of Hunger to understand the emotions and happenings of the time better. Our trip concludes at the renowned Anne Frank House.

Holocaust history in Amsterdam - Malachi was a wonderful guide. He was knowledgeable and able to convey his knowledge to the group. He did a great job of making eye contact with everyone, answering our questions, walking at a pace that some of the older folks could manage. I wish him and his brother a wonderful summer of guiding people through this heartbreaking period In our history. We had not secured tickets before we came to Amsterdam and so we weren’t able to get inside the Anne Frank Museum. (Go to the website 6 weeks before you want to get tickets. ) We still felt we had a good Anne Frank experience with this tour.

Exceptional tour! - We loved our walking tour! We had an oversight in that I thought we were also booking tickets to go into the house; though this was not the case, and truly just a walking tour, I would wager to say this was an even better experience than what we anticipated. Max was so knowledgeable and was able to tailor our experience to the specific questions and inquiries we had regarding not only Anne and the Frank family, but much of the time she and her community were living in. I would highly recommend this tour, it meant a lot to us to be able to join.

Outstanding tour by engaging guide Tristan. - Tristan was our guide for this emotionally charged tour. It’s really not easy to provide an engaging tour when the subject matter is so challenging. But Tristan pulled it off brilliantly. His approach was completely appropriate, respectful and very informative. He knew his stuff and I came away enlightened about this dark period of Amsterdam’s history. His introduction was very good giving us a brief rundown of Amsterdam’s history and setting everything in context. I would highly recommend this tour and if you get Tristan, you’ll be set up for a highly professional and satisfying tour.
