Highlights
  • Amsterdam - We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Amsterdam and head to the Schermer.

  • Museummolen Schermer - This is one of the largest reclaimed land areas in Holland, filled with windmills! In the 17th century, the Schermeer lake was drained by 52 mills, creating the Schermerpolder. It’s a unique example of water management from the Golden Age. We’ll visit the Museum Mill, where you can explore from top to bottom. You’ll see how the mill operates and how people used to live in windmills.

  • Schermerhorn - We’ll drive on the dikes through the reclaimed land of the Schermer, passing Esther’s family windmill and charming small villages.

  • De Rijp - We’ll visit De Rijp, which was once a bustling fishing village known for its herring fleet and whalers. After the surrounding sea was drained, De Rijp found itself surrounded by land. Jan Adriaanzoon Leeghwater, the famous hydraulic engineer, was born here. Free from mass tourism, De Rijp is a beautiful village to explore.

  • Droogmakerij de Beemster (Beemster Polder) - We’ll drive through the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Beemster, with its reclaimed land known as Polders. After the Beemster Lake was drained, a system of roads, plots, farms, and canals was meticulously planned across the polder. We’ll see the beautiful farmhouses and green meadows.

  • Edam - We’ll head to the famous cheese town of Edam. In Edam, we’ll stroll through the old center and visit Henry Willig’s cheese shop for a Gouda & Edam cheese tasting. They rank among the top 10 cheesemakers globally. If you’re a cheese lover, you’ll be in cheese heaven! They have 30 flavors and develop the cheeses specifically for travel.

  • Edam - Lunchtime

You can choose where you want to have lunch. As locals, we know many nice places. Whether it’s a local fish restaurant or a traditional Dutch pancake restaurant, just tell us your preferences and we’ll arrange it for you.

  • Alida Hoeve Cheese Farm & Wooden Shoe Factory - Clog demonstration
Ever wanted to know how a clog is made? Join the wooden shoe demonstration and find out! You can even try on and buy a pair of wooden shoes.
  • Broek - Broek in Waterland

This village is surrounded by water and is one of the most beautiful villages in Holland. It is comparable to the famous Dutch water village Giethoorn. We’ll enjoy a pleasant stroll past the old wooden houses with their preserved original details, like ceremonial doors and carved lintels, and a beautifully restored sixteenth-century church. The floor is paved with the tombstones of the formerly wealthy inhabitants of Broek in Waterland.
