Last Minute Tour - Like others we selected this tour at the last minute because they had tickets available; it turned out to be a wise choice. Our guide was Genevieve who met us at the shiny silver cube exactly on time. We had just come from the Rijksmuseum and fatigue had started to set in. Starting with contemporary artists Genevieve complemented the exhibition's presentation with insight into Vincent's tragic life and interactions with his fellow artists. By following this arc we remained focused on the artist's skill development that while brilliant led to the inevitable end. Our 14 year old grand daughter was with us and they interacted well. This personal guided tour justified the expense.

Van Gogh Museum with Loving Vincent Tours - We initially signed up for the Loving Vincent tour with Fannie because it was the only way we could secure tickets during our trip, but 2 minutes in, we were so glad we did! Her knowledge of Vincent as an artist and a man combined with her enthusiasm for art and history made it fun, educational, and an experience in itself. 5/5 stars. :)

THIS is the Way to Tour the Van Gogh Museum - We toured the Van Gogh Museum today with Mercedes as our guide. We were so fortunate to have Mercedes with us. She is a writer for an art magazine and also organizes large art shows internationally. She was exceptionally versed in Vincent Van Gogh and his artwork. Her approach to the tour was spot on and quite different than the flow of the basic audio tour. Rather than following the crowds from entrance to exit, she took us through Van Gogh's works in chronological order, which enabled a backdrop of how Van Gogh's life experiences from his teen years to an early, tragic ending dominated his approach to painting. Mercedes pointed out so many things that you just wouldn't get from an audio tour. We learned about his approach to painting, the style of his brushstrokes and the subjects of his paintings. But, most critically, she effectively described how his personal life and relationships influenced his paintings. The tour was as much about the man and his life as it was about his artwork. If you really want the full picture, contact Mercedes at lovingvincenttours.com. It will make your Van Gogh Museum experience one you won't forget.
