Beautiful Hike Close to Downtown Anchorage! - We took a two week trip to Alaska in July and the first thing on our itinerary was the Summer Valley and Forest Hike with Go Hike Alaska. We booked the tour through Alaska Tour and Travel (will review that company separately as well). Our flight was significantly delayed the night before so we got in really late and were concerned about being too tired but it ended up being great! The company picks you up from downtown Anchorage in a large van and driven approximately 40 minutes outside of the city to the Eagle River/Chugach State Park. We were a family of three (two adults and a 10-year-old) and we had an older couple with us (maybe late 60s?) We were told that max group size is 5, which I think was a great business plan. The weather was slightly cool with some very light drizzle but it was extremely comfortable since we were dressed appropriately. Our guide was Caleb, and he was excellent. He wasn't native to Alaska but had lived there for quite some time and really knew a lot about the area. We had about a 5-mile hike throughout the absolutely gorgeous Alaskan landscape, which took about 2 hours. The mountains and glaciers in the distance were beautiful, and the forested area was so green and lush. The river was beautiful. The hike was not very stressful but difficult enough for our daughter to be able to handle it well without be bored. (Her favorite part was climbing a few large rocks to get a great photo op). We saw SO MUCH BEAR SCAT but luckily (unluckily?) we didn't see any actual bear. We DID see a moose though! After our valley hike loop, we got back in the van and travelled about 15 min to our second location. It was about a mile hike to a beautiful waterfall (Barbara Falls) and that part of the hike was definitely more difficult. Not strenuous but definitely more difficult footwork. I would not recommend that portion for people unsteady on their feet or young children. Caleb was very attentive and serious about our welfare throughout. Some light trail snacks were provided during the trip, as well as bottles of water, which was definitely appreciated. Overall, we had a wonderful time and it was a perfect start to what ended up being a perfect trip!

An expert Guide for our Alaska adventure - We had an amazing trip to Alaska this past week. Out of all the activities we did the one that we all voted was the best was our Go Hike Alaska hiking trip. Our expert guide was a gentlemen named Caleb Darling. His depth of knowledge of the area we were hiking in and with Alaska in general was very informative. He ensured we were able to visit some very special spots with beautiful scenery that created memories for our family that we will cherish for a lifetime. If you planning a trip and looking for a fantastic experience then I strongly recommend this company and requesting Caleb and you will be sure to have a wonderful time.

Perfect hike and perfect guide :-) - Perfect hike and perfect guide :-) We were only me and my husbond so it was almost like a private tour. We learned al lot - not only about flora and fauna and the animals, but also about Alaska - tax system, why Sarah Palin has moved, weapon regulation (there are none! We actually met a guy in the forest carrying a revolver), military bases and lot more. So it was not only about hiking in the beautiful surroundings of Anchorage, but also about life in Alaska :-) Can only recommend this!

Amazing Summer Valley Hike - Did the hike with Caleb. It was breathtaking and Caleb was the best. It was just my wife and I so we were able to go much faster and further than what was advertised. Caleb went out of his way to tell us everything about Alaska and took us to some beautiful and unique views. Greatest tour guide ever!

Very enjoyable and informative hike - Our family have enjoyed guided hikes for years when we visit a new place, and our trip to Alaska was no exception. Mike was our guide for the Summer Valley and Forest Hike and not only was it a beautiful hike, Mike was a wealth of information about the local flora and fauna and Alaska in general. I'd highly recommend this hike and Mike in general.

Fun day with nice sights - Had the best time with Abe as our guide! A small group (just me, Abe, and Harriet!) but a wonderful trip. Awesome scenery and I even learned a thing or two about birds. Abe was a great guide and attentive to the needs and interests of the group. Fun day all around.

go ahead and do this walk/hike! You will not regret the panorama! - Mike our guide/driver went above and beyond. We were a small group of 4 and he took good care of each one of us. He is friendly, knowledgeable about the area, fauna and flora. Good communicator and sense of humor. The hike itself is easy to moderate at the Barbara Waterfalls since it’s strewn with boulders and sharp twist and turns - easy to twist an ankle if you’re not watching. The waterfalls are definitely not to be missed, though - go ahead and do this walk/hike! You will not regret the panorama!

Not a “Hike” But a Nice Walk with Nice Scenery - First the good. Guide Mike was truly great and actively shared his knowledge. His love of the outdoors was obvious. Scenery was also great especially given its proximity to central Anchorage. The less good. This is not a hike. It is a snails pace walk through a local park with the potential for a moose or bear sighting (there was plenty of scat) on trails so wide and maintained on 90% of the terrain it’s almost as if paved. While again Mike was really great, you really don’t need a guide and certainly for a group you may be much better off economically getting an Uber there and back than paying for multiple persons plus tips. That’s just an economic reality. Additionally, if you want to move at even a moderate clip and/or get your heart rate up, this “hike” is not that. If however you want “easy” transportation, an easy stroll with nice scenery with someone that shares their knowledge and knows how to use bear spray, this could be just right.
