We suggest having breakfast before the tour to ensure you have enough energy for the hike. It’s also a good idea to bring a small snack for the journey to keep you energized.

We will provide a thick jacket, gloves, and a hat for the cold weather. However, please bring appropriate clothing, hiking shoes, and any necessary medication.

Our scenic route will take us on a picturesque one-hour drive from Antigua to the charming mountain village of La Soledad. Prepare to be captivated by the diversity of Acatenango Volcano’s trail, which features four distinct microclimates. Each segment will take about an hour to traverse, offering a unique and immersive experience.

We’ll start by ascending a steep trail that winds through local farm fields.

Next, we’ll enter an ancient tropical cloud forest. Then, prepare to be mesmerized by the magnificent vistas of the majestic Cuchumatanes mountain chain.

To fuel your adventurous spirits, a delightful picnic will be served mid-day. It’s the perfect opportunity for our group to relax and soak in the breathtaking surroundings.

Summit of Acatenango Volcano & Return to Antigua Guatemala

Acatenango Volcano - As the morning unfolds, we’ll kick-start the day with a hearty camp breakfast, fueling ourselves for the adventure that lies ahead. With renewed energy, our group will embark on an exhilarating 90-minute ascent to the summit. The trail we tread upon consists of sandy and gravelly scree, adorned with magnificent dwarf pine trees and vibrant high alpine mosses.

Upon reaching the summit, a moment of well-deserved respite awaits. Here, our group can relax, soak in the breathtaking surroundings, and relish unparalleled 360-degree views of the majestic Guatemalan highlands. From this vantage point, our gaze extends all the way to the Mexican border, offering a truly awe-inspiring vista.

Take your time to savor the summit, as we spend around 45 minutes (subject to conditions and time constraints) in this extraordinary setting.

When it’s time to descend, our group will embark on a three-hour journey back towards La Soledad.

Antigua - After an exhilarating adventure, it’s time to make our way back to the captivating city of Antigua. Our comfortable transportation awaits, ensuring a pleasant journey as we return to our starting point. We’ll arrive in Antigua in the afternoon, around 13:00hrs, allowing you ample time to immerse yourself in the charms of this enchanting old Spanish colonial capital.

Join us on an unforgettable journey up Acatenango Volcano, the third-largest in Guatemala! Day 1 entails an exhilarating hike covering 80% of the volcano’s terrain, lasting around 6 hours. Witness the awe-inspiring eruptions of Fuego Volcano as you warm up by the campfire at base camp. At night, opt for an optional tour to get up close to Fuego’s eruptions (additional cost applies).

Day 2 begins with an early rise at 3:30 am to conquer the remaining 20% of the volcano, reaching the summit in 1.5-2 hours to catch the mesmerizing sunrise. After breakfast at base camp, begin the descent, arriving in Antigua by 1:00 pm. Don’t miss this thrilling adventure and the chance to witness nature’s power firsthand!

Note: This tour includes climbing Acatenango Volcano. You can opt for a tour to Fuego Volcano for Q300.00 per person, payable in cash to the local guide. Note that this is not part of the standard itinerary, so we don’t provide any guarantee or insurance for this additional activity.

All camping gear, including sleeping bags, will be waiting for you at the base camp. You’ll only need to bring the items mentioned above.
