Easy Antigua - Very easy transfer from Puerto Quetzal port, about 1:15, traffic dependent. We visited on Sunday, so the town was quite busy. No problem navigating around and finding the landmarks. We had an outstanding brunch and shopped at leisure. Our call was only 7 hours, so we spent most of it traveling to and from. However, well worth it because the volcanoes were visible on the entire route. A relaxing and historically informative day!! Highly recommended.

3.5 hour exploration of Antigua - Our tour guide spoke perfect English and communicated to the 3 of us clearly taking into consideration one of us is 82 years old. We met him as soon as our transportation dropped us off at the Jade Factory. He was willing to negotiate his fee but when we were done our tour we paid him his original fee plus tip as were were very pleased with our adventure. He asked us what our knowledge of Antigua was and what we were interested in seeing. He showed us all the sights were were interested in and even more. He kept us in the shade as much as possible for our comfort. For lunch he took us to a local restaurant where he likes to eat and we had a fabulous meal before delivering us on time back to our transportation to the ship.

Fun way to explore the town - We chose this excursion as something relaxing to do. The bus ride there was a bit long, but we were able to see some interesting countryside. Once in Antigua our "guide' took us into town and showed us where to meet and when to be there, then we were off. This town is easy to walk and very easy to find your way around. We explored a bunch of old churches. Several parks were there to see as well. The vendors were very tenacious. Once you started looking at one person's wares, 3 others had stuff in your face. Our friend found a mercado that you went down a long hallway to get to. After that it was a maze through several buildings. The vendors there weren't as bad as the ones in the parks. We all were a bit hungry so we went to a little restaurant there for some breakfast. (I wrote a whole other review on that). We did do some buying intown. Shop owners were very open to price haggle but were fair. We did find another place for goodies. Cafe Boheme. They had some awesome croissants. We all bought some for the ride back to the ship. I wished I had bought more. This was worth the trip to see the town. This seems like a pace that would be fun to stay in for a few days and explore the history more.

Good ride into Antigua. Tour guides... -
Good ride into Antigua. Tour guides were good. Was punctual. However the stop over on the way to Antigua was too long. The store was overpriced. A quick bathroom break would have been sufficient.

This was our Guatemala trip in to... -
This was our Guatemala trip in to the city of Antigua. Our party of 12 started out an hour later than listed, however, it was no fault of our tour guide nor driver. So that cut down on our time in the city, which was approximately one and one-half hour trip inland. The city itself was awesome with it's history and information given by our guide, Erwin Rivas, kept us entertained. His presentation throughout the day was very informative, and you can definitely tell he is passionate about his county. We incurred one unfortunate incident on the way back to our ship which really sobered us all up. The van was pulled over at random and papers checked, and for some lame reason, there was a problem which held us up for approximately 30-45 minutes which required a fine. Erwin took care of the incident by paying off this fine and getting us back on our way to the ship in time to meet our departure deadline. It was close, and we all sighed a big relief as we got back with approximately 7 minutes to spare. Great excursion, other than that hic-up.
