Two day trek up volcano Misti. - I booked a "two day trek up volcano Misti" directly through the operator (Peru Adventure Tours). My guide and I camped on the mountain overnight and continued early hours next morning to the summit. I made it to over 18k feet but unfortunately did not summit. It had been communicated beforehand that I would need a tent, "mattress" and sleeping bag. The "mattress" was one inch thick and barely made any difference. The sleeping bag was too small for me (and I'm medium size), I could only get the zipper 3/4 the way up, and it smelt. For those reasons I wasn't able to sleep, which made me not feel hungry or wanting to eat before going for the summit, which made me feel drained of energy. I believe that if I had gotten some sleep, I would have been able to summit. If I were to do it again, it would be just the trek starting at midnight, without camping on the mountain (you can request that). My guide, Karol, was absolutely amazing! She is 100% the real deal. Very experienced with mountaineering, and very knowledgeable. She did everything she could to make my experience awesome, and with a constant smile. She has a very sweet personality but don't let that fool you, she is a bad ass on the mountain!

An awesome experience at Misti. Highly recommend!! - This trek was one of our top highlights visiting Arequipa. After our driver Leandro took us through some non-trivial terrain to reach the trail head, the two of us hiked with our guide Marco Antonio for roughly two hours up to ~4150m. After this we took a great path down through a basalt field. We really liked the flexibility of this hike, as there was no fixed distance we needed to reach, however we were able to really challenge ourselves and face the enormity of Misti up close! The views throughout are awesome. This is a great complement/alternative to Colca that is only one hour away, much more intimate (we did not run into anyone else on the volcano!), and slightly more challenging, depending on your fitness level, experience at higher elevation and how hard you want to push. I highly recommend this trek!

Super cool mountain bike experience! - The mountain bike tour was amazing. Stunning views of the area and the tourguides were awesome! Marcos Antonio showed us all the options for the tour and you can decide which route to take based on your experience. Our guide explained us all about the area we were cycling in and there was a car behind us at all times. If you wanted to skip a part of the route the guys didn’t hesitate to put your bike on the car and once you wanted to start cycling again they got your bike off the car again. They also offer protection for your arms and legs, helmet etc. Felt super safe to mountain bike with these guys and would highly recommend if you are in Arequipa! You get stunning views of El Misti and see some of the Inca terraces.

Magucal - My husband and I found this fabulous tour company here on trip advisor. We went on 2 private tours, a two day trek of the Colca Canyon and a half day trek to El Misti. Both treks were incredible, Luigi was our guide for the Colca Canyon, he was great company, funny and super knowledgable, he really did make our experience magical, also the driver Roberto was brilliant, he took pictures for us and both guys were fantastic company. For our El Misti trek our guide was Cristian who’s gentle nature and extensive knowledge were unparalleled, we loved every second of both tours and we thank Saul the owner for such a truly unforgettable magical experience.

Arequipa-Colca Canyon-Puno 3D/2N trek but Marcel our guide is the real star - This trek was one of the main things we were looking forward to when coming to Peru and it didn't disappoint. We booked the Arequipa - Colca Canyon - Puno 3D/2N. The trek was quite expensive but we wanted a private feel. Day one started with Marcelo our guide collecting us in a minivan from our hotel in Arequipa. From the moment we meet Marcelo I felt justified in our decision to book the trek and we instantly got on. Marcelo's English is superb and he is incredibly knowledgeable about an array of subjects. The first day was a long drive through the foothills to over a mountain range and ends in the canyon with a 30 min walk to the lodge for the evening. During this drive we stopped at villages, rock formations, wild animals, dinosaur footprints and even picked up a local lady at our request to help her up the steep hills. On arrival at the lodge we had lunch and Marcel arranged a vegan option which was above and beyond. When checked into our cabin which was basic but to be expected in a canyon and then changed into our swimsuits for a dip in the hot springs which was stunning. Special shout out to Abell our driver who must of had arms of steal to deal with the shaking. Day two after a decent sleep we were again looked after at breakfast with a vegan option and set of at 0700hrs for trek up along and back down the canyon. This was challenging in parts but nothing too extreme. Again Marcelo was great and conversation flowed easily both educatonal and personal. At the end of 5hr we arrived at the osis Lodge where we had lunch and free time to enjoy the amazing naturally feed swimming pool. We finished the day with dinner and went to get a well deserved sleep. I have to admit that sleep ws tough as the oasis has a lot of insects but that's our problem. Day 3 we awoke at 0330 for an early start. It was a 3hr trek out of the canyon and was physically tough. Marcelo kept a steady pace with regular breaks and by the time the sun came up we were almost at the top. We had some great moments with mules coming up and down the trial. At the top was a magnificant view and a much needed coffee. We then had breakfast at a nearby cafe which was amazing. Our driver Abell then meet us with the van and we set off for Puno. On route we stopped to see the Condors, again Marcelo's passio was great including letting me use his binoculars throughout. We also stopped at Chivay where Marcelo introduced us to fruits on the market, and volcano view point where we discussed geology (I'm a geologists so was happy to give him some information in return 😁). We also stopped at severally stunning places on the route to Puno including viewpoints and lakes. I think you can see that I had to write this review as it exceeded all my expecatations and Marcelo felt more of an informed friend than a tour guide which is extremely rare. If you do one thing in Peru do this and ask for Marcelo he is a star! Thanks Aude + David

Tour Cancelled and Difficult to Get Refund - My tour was cancelled because not enough people signed up. This is understandable, but Peru Adventures repeatedly ignored my inquiries regarding whether there was a tour at a different time that I could join instead. I even tried going to their office in Arequipa, but no one was there even though it was during their business hours. I purchased this tour via Trip Advisor, who made the tour non-refundable -- if you purchase on their parent company's website (Viator) who operates the tour, you can cancel for free within 24 hours. I told both Trip Advisor and Peru Adventures that I couldn't cancel for a refund and Trip Advisor said not to worry. They said they had to call Peru Adventures about the issue, despite the fact that all my communications with Peru Adventures were on Trip Advisor for anyone to read! After many phone calls with customer service, I finally received an email that my refund had been denied! I then wrote back that I could of course get my credit card company to reverse the charge once I show them the messages between myself and Peru Adventures proving that the tour didn't happen. After that, they approved the refund immediately. In summary, I would not count on this tour and I wasted hours of my time trying to get a refund when the refund should have been processed automatically. If you book this tour, make sure you have a good credit card company or you may not get your money back!
