Highlights
  • Perito Moreno Glacier - Our navigation will take you to know one of the most beautiful places in Los Glaciares National Park, which only a few people have the privilege of accessing: the May Sine of Lake Argentino. The Seno Mayo (or Brazo Mayo), is one of the wettest sectors of the National Park, that is why the vegetation that can be selected in the course of the two walks (which we will do in the Patagonian Andean forest) is totally different from the which observes in other places National Park. The “Mayo Spirit Trek” is the perfect combination of trekking in the forest, with a view of waterfalls, rivers, hanging glaciers and a visit to the Perito Moreno glacier (navigation + walkways). Suitable all-public, with low difficulty walks, makes our passengers fascinated with our excursion.

Mayo Spirit Trek Program Our boat sails from the port of Punta Bandera and enters the Channel of the Icebergs of Lake Argentino. The first stop (without disembarking) is in front of the “Punta Bandera”, where Francisco Pascasio Moreno performed the baptism of Lake Argentino (on February 15, 1877). There, the boat guide will explain the history of the place, and we will see the mast that marks this very important site of our history. Continuing with the navigation, we enter the May Sine of Lake Argentino. 1st Landing: Toro Bay (Total distance of the walk: 700mts. Approx. / Difficulty: does not own it, flat terrain.) We will disembark at Bahía Toro and, accompanied by our guide, we will make an interpretive hike through the Patagonian Andean forest (composed of cherries, cinnamon, lengas and ñires). We will arrive at a copy of centenary cherry (baptized “El Abuelo”), which has a trunk of more than three meters in diameter. Then, we will attract the forest until we reach a waterfall, it gives rise to a beautiful stream. The guide will give us an interpretive talk of that area. From the coast of the lake, we can observe the hanging glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro. We will return to the boat and, in just 15 minutes more navigation, we will arrive at our next stop.

2nd Landing: Cerro Negro (Total distance of the walk: 1,000mts. Approx. / Difficulty: low, gentle slope.) We will disembark at Cerro Negro and, together with the boat’s guide, we will start a hike entering the Patagonian Andean forest. During our walk, we will go along a river that will take us to the Cerro Negro (proper). We will arrive a few meters from the base of said Hill and (from there) we can contemplate the wonderful Black Glacier. This glacier is a “hanging” glacier, this means what is on the mountain, “hangs” on it. From it, a large number of waterfalls are born, which give rise to the river that we were bordering throughout our walk. We will stay for a while in this place, observing the incredible landscape around us and then we will return to the boat that will take us to our next destination …

3rd Landing: Perito Moreno Glacier Returning to navigation, we will leave the Seno Mayo to return to navigate the Canal de los Témpanos. In a few minutes, we will begin to see (at the end of the Canal) the north wall of the Perito Moreno glacier. Upon arriving there, we will make a slow navigation in front of this measure during which we can consider its height, its extension, and (if luck accompanies us) we can see some detachment. We will also sail in front of the area where (we produce the phenomenon of glacier rupture, a fact that we have given international fame). Then we will be disembarking in Puerto Moreno to go (in the company of our guide) to the catwalks, which are located in front of the Perito Moreno glacier. Once there, we will have free time to walk and observe the glacier from the different balconies. At the time set by the guide, we will return to the port to embark again and return to our last stop, the port of Punta Bandera.

Additional Information

Our journey guides you to one of the most splendid sceneries in Los Glaciares National Park, a place that only a handful of people are fortunate enough to visit: the May Arm of Lake Argentino. The Seno Mayo (also known as Brazo Mayo) is one of the dampest regions of the National Park, hence the vegetation seen throughout the two hikes (which we will undertake in the Patagonian Andean Forest) is completely distinct from that found elsewhere in the National Park. The ‘Mayo Spirit Trek’ seamlessly merges forest hikes, waterfall views, rivers, hanging glaciers, and a tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier (navigation + boardwalks). With trails of mild difficulty that are accessible to all, our voyage leaves our patrons thoroughly enchanted.
