As we traverse Mount Aenos, our journey leads us to Omala Valley, where stands Kefalonia’s largest religious edifice established by St. Gerasimos, the island’s patron saint, back in 1560. It’s almost a ritual to sample Kefalonia’s renowned local wine along with other traditional products, an experience made possible by a cellar and exhibition showcasing wines, spirits and local specialities of Kefalonia and the other Ionian Islands, situated in the vicinity. The journey continues onto Melissani, an underground lake, where visitors are ferried in tiny boats to marvel at the stunning stalactites and the mesmerising play of light, altering the water’s colour. A visit to Drogarati Cave, revealed to the world 300 years ago by an earthquake, is next on the agenda. From there, we proceed to Agia Efimia, a picturesque location nestled between the sea and the fir-lined mountains. Concluding the tour, capture the breath-taking views from Myrtos Bay’s hilltop on your camera.
