Highlights
  • Nubian Museum - Your qualified Egyptologist guide will show you some of the most important artifacts before allowing you free time to explore the museum yourself.
In the early 1960’s, Egypt built the High Dam at Aswan, Egyptologists & archaeologists the world over heeded UNESCO’s appeal to salvage the monuments of Egyptian Nubia before the rising waters of Lake Nasser submerged them forever.
UNESCO was encouraged in the 1980’s to plan a Nubian museum in Aswan, where the objects could be stored & exhibited.
It became a reality and opened in November 1997.
The architecture of the Museum and the enclosure walls are intended to evoke traditional Nubian village architecture, as it was along the Nubian Nile before the region was flooded by Lake Nasser.
The building is set within a landscape, on graded levels, that includes a sequence of waterfalls. It divides into 2 branches to surround an open-air stage & amphitheater where already many local & foreign groups have performed.

Professional private tour - We had a great private tour of the Nubian Museum before our river cruise. Sunrise travel and our guide Aida were extremely professional and easy to work with. They arranged to pick us up at airport and take us to the boat after the tour. We would strongly recommend the Museum and Sunrise to anyone looking to get some sightseeing in before a cruise in Aswan.

A must-see during your visit in Aswan - The museum contains ancient egyptian monuments and jewelry from different ages starting from the very beginning of this era till the next generations. I really enjoyed watching all the Egyptian history in one visit. Worth visiting.

Outstanding Visual Introduction to Nubian History and Culture - My wife and I knew very little about Nubian history and culture before our visit, and were not sure if we would find the museum interesting. However, we fully enjoyed our 2 hour visit. The relatively new museum is well laid out, with a manageable number of displays, organized chronologically, with good lighting and informative signage and graphics. I would recommend the museum as a well-presented visual introduction to Nubia.

Great Museum, poor experience. - The Nubian Museum is a wonderful collection, well displayed in a great building. Lots of explanation of Nubian history and culture. However, the chap in the ticket office was almost certainly trying to scam us. He insisted we paid by card and then took my card, put it in the hand held card machine and entered a figure which I couldn’t see and just asked for my pin. I made him start again in full view - he was very angry - I am convinced he would have over charged us and then taken cash from the next visitor…. The visit was almost ruined by a school party who had no interest in the museum and just wanted to hassle us (for money). Teachers had no control.
