Highlights
  • Makrygianni - Our private tour lasts 3 hours, divided into approximately 80 minutes at the Acropolis and its temples, theaters, and buildings, and 80 minutes at the Acropolis Museum.

MEETING OUR GUIDE. Your guide will be waiting at the ‘Acropoli’ Metro Station at street level, located at 7 Makrygianni Street, near the Acropolis Museum.

Our meeting spot offers a great view of the Acropolis wall built by the Mycenaean Civilization and serves as an introduction to the history of the Acropolis, its significance in ancient Greece, and an overview of the temples and monuments you will visit.

If you choose the ‘CITY TOUR LUXURY VEHICLE’ option, return transfers are included, and we will meet you at your hotel or cruise ship terminal.

  • Acropolis - TOURING THE ACROPOLIS and PARTHENON.
Typically, the tour begins with an 80-minute visit to the Acropolis, where you will see all the temples, theaters, and buildings such as the Propylaea, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheum, and the Parthenon.
  • Theater of Dionysus - One of our first stops is the well-preserved Ancient Theater of Dionysus. Built in the 4th and 5th centuries BC on the slopes of the Acropolis, it had a capacity of 25,000 and is considered the world’s oldest theater. Many famous Ancient Greek plays premiered here.
  • Propylaia - Ascend to the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis.

As you approach the temples of the Acropolis, imagine the Ancient Greeks being greeted by a massive bronze statue of the Goddess Athena, whose spear tip was visible to incoming ships.

  • Temple of Athena Nike - Built around 420 BC, this Classical Ionic Temple dedicated to Athena is largely restored and overlooks the city.
  • Parthenon - The pinnacle of Classical Greece’s ‘Golden Age,’ this temple is a masterpiece of art, architecture, and engineering, and the heart of ancient Greek worship in Athens. We will spend time here discussing its construction, mythology, and historical importance.
  • Erechtheion - The second-largest temple of the Acropolis, dedicated to Zeus and Athena. Your guide will share its mythology and highlight its impressive statues, now housed in the museum.
  • Herod Atticus Odeon - Built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this marble amphitheater is still used as a theater today.
  • Acropolis Museum - TOURING THE NEW ACROPOLIS MUSEUM (approximately 80 minutes)
A short walk from the Acropolis, this state-of-the-art museum houses many original masterpieces, models, videos, and interactive installations. Your guide will highlight the most significant pieces and their stories. The combination of the Acropolis and Museum offers a comprehensive understanding of Classical Greece’s ‘Golden Age.’

ENDING YOUR TOUR. Your guide will return you to the meeting point, or you can choose to stay and explore the city further.

First visit to the Acropolis a memorable experience--in a good way :) - Fantastic experience visiting the Acropolis for the first time--impressive and memorable at the same time. Extremely enjoyable experience in all aspects. I would recommend this experience to others, as our guide exhibited an impressive knowledge base, was able to answer all our questions, and was able to pace both the museum and Acropolis tour to our liking—not too rushed, but not too slow. One of the better guides/experiences I have come across in recent years.

Informative and efficient! - This was a fabulous tour! Great communication from Get Your Guide. We met our guide easily. She was so informative, fun and efficient! We covered a lot of ground, and she always seemed to find shade for us when we needed it. Elina was thoroughly educated on the history of Greece and the Greek culture. She knows how to navigate the area with just the right amount of control and efficiency. I highly recommend her and Get Your Guide. For reference, we did the 3 hour tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, ending at the museum cafe for lunch, which was also really good!

Highlight of our trip to Athens - We (two adults and two teenagers) had a wonderful tour with Lisa who was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting. She brought the Acropolis and museum to life - both were impressive. We booked the 7:30am tour to avoid the worst of the heat and crowds and are glad we did! Lisa knew the best spots to visit and in which order to avoid too many people, find the shade and take photos. On a pretty hot day, she was calm, considerate and gentle in her manner. I noticed other very flustered looking tourists on larger tours and was pleased we’d invested in this one. This was the highlight of our trip to Athens.

Hits the Highlights - Vicky was excellent. She took us around the acropolis pointing out important sites in Athens and answering all of our questions. She pointed out so many things in the museum and tailored the tour to keep our teenagers engaged. I'm highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a more in depth history discussion when touring the acropolis.

A must! - Maria was simply the best! Her knowledge of history along with her knowledge of the Acropolis and Greek mythology was fantastic. It was a very hot day but she was extremely accommodating. Our museum visit was also fabulous. It was obvious she loves what she does. This tour is a must and ask for Maria as your guide. I would give her 10 stars if I could!

A Guided Walk Through History - This is the ONLY way to tour the Acropolis. Our personable guide, Liann, was an archaeologist who brought the history to life and engaged us with fascinating stories from the past and details we would never have noticed with our untrained eyes. She helped us through the crowds so efficiently and made the Acropolis Museum particularly enjoyable. If you love to learn, don’t hesitate to book this tour. (Please note you must purchase entrance tickets separately.)
