Additional Information

From time-worn monuments and ancient churches to premier museums and luxury boutiques, you’ll never find a dull moment in Athens and Sounion. Explore the myriad of historical landmarks scattered around the city’s highlights. Delve into the realm of Ancient Greece at the Parthenon - Acropolis, observe the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion along the stunning Athens Riviera, and enjoy a break at the Vouliagmeni Lake before settling down for a lunch at a local seaside eatery. Sounion Cape is situated at the extreme south of the Attica peninsula. Best known for its Poseidon’s Temple, Sounion Cape is one of the spaces marking the Golden Era of Athens. The Poseidon’s temple at Sounion was erected during the years 444-440 BC, a time when the influential Athenian politician Pericles rose to power and spearheaded the rebuilding of the Athens’ Parthenon. The Temple was constructed on the remains of a previously existing temple from the Archaic period, set against the vast sea and standing tall at nearly 60 meters (around 200 ft).
