Highlights
  • Mycenae - The fortified citadel of ancient Mycenae, the seat of the mythical and mighty King Agamemnon. An impressive and well-preserved site, the city of Mycenae gave its name to an entire civilization. Admire sites such as the Tomb of Clytemnestra, the infamous Lion’s Gate, the Cyclopean walls and learn of their blood-stained past. In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centres of Greek civilization, a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece, Crete, the Cyclades and parts of southwest Anatolia. The period of Greek history from about 1600 BC to about 1100 BC is called Mycenaean in reference to Mycenae. At its peak in 1350 BC, the citadel and lower town had a population of 30,000 and an area of 32 hectares.

Additional Information

The Corinth Canal, a water passageway, interconnects the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf by traversing the slender Corinth isthmus. Consequently, the canal isolates the Peloponnese from the mainland of Greece, effectively transforming it into an island.

Mycenae

Famed for its opulence, Mycenae, the legendary realm of Agamemnon as celebrated in Homer’s epics, is the most significant and wealthy palace society of Greece’s Late Bronze Age. This distinguished civilization of Greek prehistory earned its name from Mycenae, while the myths associated with its history have inspired countless poets and writers through the ages.

A chance of a lifetime - This tour was absolutely stunning. The driver was well informed and very caring and hospitable. There couldn’t have been a better service. He was so attentive to what we needed and did not make us feel rushed. The driver arrived early, but not too early, and that was definitely a sign of professionalism. During the ride he would tell us where we were going had an information tablet to show us while he was explaining and had WiFi setup for us to use if we needed it. The cushions in the car were fabulous and the snacks and light drinks that were packed were more than enough for trip. Outstanding service. If you want a first rate professional service you need to try this tour.
