Additional Information

Our walk takes us through the inner city, learning about Auckland’s history from early Māori habitation through to modern new developments. We are known as the city of sails but what is even more unique is that we are a city of extinct volcanoes. We weave our way down side streets and lanes, some of it on reclaimed land, past the Art Gallery and into Albert Park. We walk through Auckland University, where we see a Māori marae and a Fale Pasifika. We return to our meeting point via the entertainment area of Aotea Square, Queen Street and side streets, pointing out places of significance along the way. Auckland is undergoing a great re-vitalisation so there has never been a better time to explore our great inner city. All this walking will make us thirsty so we finish our tour at an opulent art-deco restaurant for a welcome tea/coffee plus snacks e.g. pastries and or scones and or sandwiches (included in the tour cost).

Location
Auckland Cruise Ship Terminal
Our meeting place is on Queens Wharf, 89 Quay Street, to the right of the Ferry Building. Wait on the seats at Queens Wharf Village beside The Māori Kitchen. There are awning covers and a yellow umbrella over the seating.

Excellent, informative walking tour - This is a great walking tour. The name is highly descriptive of the walk. My guide, Diane, was very knowledgeable and professional. She had lots of information to share and we explored many different nooks and crannies in the Auckland CBD. The history of Auckland is so interesting and Diane's expertise on both current and historoc matters was valuable. I learned a lot. I never knew there was such diversity around Auckland city. We walked for most of the tour period, so be prepared to cover some ground - the time passes quickly as there is a lot to see and learn. The "morning tea" is substantial, at the end of the walk at a very nice venue. I would definitely recommend this walk and would happily do others available by this provider. Thank you Diane, it was marvellous.
