Embark on a journey to explore two of New Zealand’s renowned sights, the Hobbiton Film Site and Waitomo Caves, with a convenient day tour from Auckland. Starting from December 1, 2023, our trip features the extended Hobbiton Experience (now lengthened to 2.5 hours), which lets you step inside a fully furnished Hobbit Hole. Explore the detailed interior, including the entrance hall, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, a second bathroom, the parlour, and a cosy, flickering fireplace. As Hobbiton springs into existence, don’t forget to take pictures at iconic spots like the Hobbit Holes, the Shire, and the Green Dragon Inn. Next, experience the globally acclaimed Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Be enchanted by the sight of thousands of luminous glowworms in the Grottos, and the stalactites and stalagmites while you silently float through the cave by boat. Our route off the main roads offers views of stunning landscapes characterising the genuine backcountry of New Zealand. The tour includes all entrance fees and a meal at a cafe.

Summary - The Hobbiton Movie Set is definitely worth it! Very detailed tout, explaining the scenes filmed there for the movie. The actual house for Baggins is extraordinary. Would visit again.
The Glowworm Caves were cool to see, but not what was expected. Not too many worms/organisms as photos make you think. The tour guide did a good job explaining the cave formation and the worms. Would give it 3/5 stars if it was not combined with Hobbiton.
The main tour guide, Martin, was phenomenal. He was extremely knowledgeable and corteous.

Auckland Scenic Tours will never disappoint you! - We booked this tour through Viator last week and the tour was a wonderful experience. The driver, Mike, was very knowledgeable, patient, humorous, and considerate of all of his team visitors along the journey. Thanks to his elaborate plan, we arrived early at Hobbiton. The "Shire" experience was a dream world; We had a great drink at Green Dragon in the Hobbit movie set. A delicious lunch with hot food not far from the Waitomo Glowworm Caves was another highlight. The boat tour inside the cave was alluring. Auckland Scenic Tours will never disappoint you!

Really worthwhile day trip from Auckland - A really enjoyable full day visiting the Hobbiton Movie Set (very highly recommended ) and the glowworm caves which is very relaxing. Despite the weather, Danny kept us all entertained throughout the drive with a lot of movie buff knowledge and facts about NZ along the way. Thanks Danny also for the recommendations of other things to do in Auckland!

Great experience and excellent customer service - The tour was amazing and very well organized. Our tour guide Danny was really friendly and told us loads of interesting facts about New Zealand and the places we were about to see. The customer service was also excellent. Hobbiton is a must-see and the Caves were amazing too. Would reccomend 10/10.

Fan-tastic! - If you are a LOTR and Hobbit fan, books and movies alike. you will absolutely love this place! If you are not a huge fan, You will be when you leave. The staff are lovely. The set is pristine and I want to live inside the habit home you get to explore.! 10/10!

Great experience - The movie set was so much more impressive than we expected, and the glowworm caves were a great way to cap the day. Our guide Mike kept things moving efficiently yet still gave us plenty of time to enjoy the day.

Just Perfect!!! - Excellent! We all having a great time there. Props to Martin, our driver/guide. He has an indepth knowledge on anything New Zealand, from history to native animal species. Lots of new things for us. Recommended to anyone (not only lord of the rings or hobbit movies fans).
