Giza Pyramids, Sakkara, and Memphis

Pyramids of Giza - At 6:00 am, your private tour guide will be waiting inside the Alexandria port with a sign displaying your name. You’ll then travel to Cairo to visit the Giza Pyramids, where you’ll see the Great Pyramids of Giza - Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos. You’ll also visit the Valley Temple, the place where priests mummified the body of King Chephren, the owner of the second pyramid at Giza Plateau. Here, you can get a close-up view of the Sphinx, the legendary guardian with a lion’s body and the head of King Chephren, standing by the massive funeral complex.

Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Continue your day tour to Sakkara, located just 27 km southwest of Cairo. Visit the Step Pyramid, built for King Zoser, which is considered a significant part of the pyramid evolution process, transitioning from a simple mastaba to its well-known form.

Memphis and Sakkara - Proceed to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, where you’ll see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. This city dates back to 3100 B.C.

Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been found, but the site has not been excavated.

Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex features a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre, some of which were found in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860.

Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.

Great Sphinx - The Sphinx dates back to the reign of King Khafre. During the New Kingdom, Amenhotep II dedicated a new temple to Hauron-Haremakhet, which was later expanded by subsequent rulers.

Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau in Egypt, along with Galala Mountain, which was once called Gallayat Plateaus, rises 3,300 feet above sea level. The Western Plateau is part of this region.

Pyramid of Unas - The Pyramid of Unas, built in the 24th century BC for the Egyptian pharaoh Unas, is the smallest Old Kingdom pyramid. It is significant for the discovery of Pyramid Texts, spells for the king’s afterlife inscribed into the walls of its subterranean chambers. This tradition of funerary texts began with Unas’s pyramid and continued in the pyramids of later rulers.

Step Pyramid of Djoser - The Pyramid of Djoser, or Step Pyramid, is an archaeological site in the Saqqara necropolis, northwest of the city of Memphis.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, Old Cairo, and Return to Alexandria

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - At 7:30 am, after breakfast, your Egyptologist guide will meet you in the lobby to take you to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, which includes the treasures of King Tutankhamun.

Salah El-Din Castle - You’ll have time for a panoramic photo stop in Cairo and along the Nile River before an external visit to the Citadel of Saladin and the Mohammed Ali Alabaster Mosque.

Old Cairo - Continue to Old Cairo, where you can visit and enter the Church of Abu-Sergah and St. Barbara, the Hanging Church, and the old Jewish synagogue, Ben Ezra Synagogue.

Alexandria - Finally, you’ll be escorted back to Alexandria, where you’ll have the chance to take photos of the famous Library of Alexandria and the Lighthouse before returning to your cruise ship with two hours to spare before departure.
