Tour to Qobustan, Tour to the Old City, Walking through Nizami street

Qobustan - The Gobustan State Reserve, located west of the Gobustan settlement and about 40 miles southwest of Baku’s center, was established in 1966 when the area was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan. This was done to preserve the ancient carvings, mud volcanoes, and gas-stones in the region. The reserve is rich in archaeological monuments, boasting over 6,000 rock carvings that depict primitive people, animals, battle scenes, ritual dances, bullfights, boats with armed oarsmen, warriors with lances, camel caravans, and images of the sun and stars, dating back 5,000-20,000 years on average. The Gobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve gained national status in 2006 and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 31st Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Christchurch, New Zealand, from June 23 to July 2, 2007.

Baku Old City - Also known as the Old Town or Inner City, Icheri Sheher is a unique historical ensemble located in the heart of Baku. Ancient Baku was founded where Icheri Sheher stands today, which was once on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The buildings, made from locally cut and polished limestone, share a uniform color, and the narrow, winding roads give Icheri Sheher a maze-like feel. It is the oldest inhabited part of Baku, declared a historical and cultural reserve in 1977 and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. Three sides are enclosed by a thick fortress wall, with one side open to the Caspian Sea.

Nizami str. /Tarqovi - Nizami Street is a major pedestrian and shopping street in downtown Baku, named after the classical poet Nizami Ganjavi.

Visiting Absheron peninsula, Architectural Tour of Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, Leave for Boulevard

Absheron Region - Visit the Absheron peninsula, including the Temple of Fire Worshippers (Ateshgah) and Yanar Dag, with an English-speaking guide. The Baku Ateshgah was a pilgrimage and philosophical center for Zoroastrians from the Northwestern Indian Subcontinent, who traded with the Caspian area via the famous “Grand Trunk Road.” Their four holy elements were fire (ateshi), air (badi), water (abi), and earth (heki). The temple ceased to be a place of worship in 1883 with the installation of petroleum plants in Surakhany and was converted into a museum in 1975, attracting 15,000 visitors annually.

Yanar Dag (Azerbaijani: Yanar Dağ, meaning “burning mountain”) is a natural gas fire that continuously blazes on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula near Baku. Flames shoot up to 3 meters (9.8 ft) from a thin, porous sandstone layer.

Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center - The Heydar Aliyev Center, a signature building in Baku, was designed to be a fluid form that naturally emerges from the landscape. Its smooth facade connects the museum, auditorium, multi-purpose hall, and all entrances into a single surface that extends into the building’s interior. Named the Design of the Year by London’s Design Museum, many critics consider it Hadid’s crowning achievement and the full realization of her signature swooping style.

Baku Boulevard - Baku boasts amazing shopping malls that make every visit more entertaining. These malls not only house shops but also offer a variety of restaurants and other entertainment facilities. The most popular shopping malls in Baku include Park Bulvar, 28 Mall, Ganjlik Mall, Metropark Shopping Mall, and Port Baku Mall.

Surprising Baku - Baku surprising city between tradition (the old city, habit of people) and modernity (resembles a European city with its stores), the architects gave free rein to their imagination as the cultural center among other things. Contrast between the Baku region and the mountains on the Qabalan side. Fire mountains and mud volcanoes are surprising sights. Advice for your travels: use taxis at ridiculously low prices: bolt the cheapest. Disappointment: no audio guide even though they are indicated. Big improvement to be made in the reception of sites and museums (smile, audio guides in several languages. The tourist office is of no use (no city maps or advice for transport, it gives you a site to consult by Internet)
